Size of the in-room safes?

Does anyone have any info on the dimensions of the room safes? We will be staying at the Yacht Club and will be bringing a laptop. Will an average size laptop fit in one of the safes? Or...am I being too paranoid and is it OK to just leave the computer in the room when we go out for the day? TIA!

We were able to fit my dh's old (my present) laptop in the room safe at akl. He currently has a 17 inch laptop, and I don't think that will fit in the safe. We plan on checking it in and out...lots of times.

The one we had at AKL was about 2" wide and about 10" high, not big enough for a laptop, barley big enough for anything.

I was able to fit my 15.4 widescreen laptop in the safe standing up. If that's not an option, I usually lock it in my suitcase. I won't take the risk of leaving it out in the open in the room, or even in the unlocked drawer.

The Passporter guidebook claims that most rooms have a "laptop-sized safe." Not sure if that helps or not. Why don't you call the Yacht Club and ask for the dimensions of their room safes?

If you have a really small one...I know DH's laptop would NEVER fit in that safe. We usually just keep our "small electronics" in the safe that we aren't carrying around the park (my cell phone, mp3 player, DH's beeper) and all our "extra' cash.

DH has left his laptop in a drawer under some clothes...or in his laptop bag just sitting in the closet. Never had a problem.

If you want a little extra security, pick up a laptop lock. They either connect into a little slot on the laptop or onto the monitor port of the laptop.

It comes with a cable that you can wrap around things and thus 'tie' the laptop to the room. I'd consider that if you are really concerned. (Then leave the key in the safe so you don't loose it at the parks!)

We take our laptop everywhere and always leave plugged into the charger on the desk. I would not worry about it, espically at WDW. Over the years and many many trips to WDW, I have left so many different things out forgetting to lock them in the safe. On a few occasions I have left my 4 ct engagement ring on the dresser (not on purpose), and found it exactly where I left it.
We travel with all kinds of expensive stuff, digital cameras, cell phones, laptop, watches and jewelery. While we do lock up the jewelery and cash in the safe, we do leave the electronics out. Never had a problem.

I would be more worried about theft of information from using a wireless hotspot, than the theft of a laptop in your room. We have our own wireless service as it is secure, rather than sharing which leaves your info open for theft.

I think that all the WDW in-room safes I have seen are too small for most laptops, I know none of ours would fit. I usually only use the safe to put away any extra cash or my jewelry-roll(the fabric case I pack any jewelry in).

agnes!
