We have a quick 4 night trip planned for the end of Feb. We'll be taking ME so no car. I'm trying to get a feel for how large the resort is. Can someone compare it to Pop or CSR or any of the other resorts? It doesn't matter overall - I'd just like to know what to expect (younger dd has CP and will use an adaptive stroller when she gets tired).

OKW is a sprawling resort. You could be very close to the Hospitality House (as well as the gift shop and restaurant) or you could be a 10-15 minute walk away.

However, there are several internal bus stops so you can catch the bus very near your unit.

OKW is large, but very transportation friendly. Bus service is one of the best of the DVC resorts. Sorry, but I've never stayed at the value resorts, so not able to compare there.

There is no comparison between the two resorts size wise. OKW is far larger. Comparing a value to a deluxe is really a huge difference.

most of the buildings at OKW do not have elevators, so I would let Member Services know that you must have an elevator-equipped building or ground floor. it sounds like an elevator building in the Hospitality House area would work best for you.

There are no buildings with elevators in the HH booking category.

We are in our 60's and have arthritis and knee issues, but we don't find the steps to be an issue at all at OKW. The steps are definitely low rise ones, and the only issues we have had were the step INSIDE the Grand Villa units. The exterior ones have never bothered us. Well...Except when we have tried to carry our Owner's Locker up by ourselves!

Bldg 64 is not a far walk to the bus stop and is one of the buildings with an elevator

I was told last year by a DVC MS CM that some of the HH buildings have elevators, but that obviously could be incorrect info.

my elevator vs stairs suggestion was because the OP said their dd has CP, and that may present more of an elevator need if first floor is not available.

Yep, that was incorrect information.

Ask to be near HH for health issues if you cannot be accomodated ask to be near a bus stop when you check in. We have2 children with special needs and it is the perfect resort for them. They do not have any physical restrictions but at the end of the day if the are overtired or overstimulated meldowns tend to be more prominent. The laid back atmosphere of OKW really helps. Some of the other resorts can be just as crazy as the parks. I can actually see my kids unwind at OKW. Hope this helps.

The CM you spoke to was wrong. The only elevator buildings at OKW are 62, 63, and 64 and they are NOT in the HH booking category, however, they are near HH. They usually try to keep them for medical need, so contacting MS with your medical need request should get you a 1st floor or elevator building.

We had needs like that a couple of trips, and have always had our requests filled when it has been medical need.

This is an interesting question. I am curious too! We have stayed at POR/CBR/CSR/POP and found them to be very large, too. I wonder if there is a place that lists the physical size of the resorts? If I find something, I will let you know:)

OP, I couldn't tell you a size difference to the resort from POP, but I DO know CBR and PORS, and OKW is much easier to get around in than either of those two.

We have been going to Disney for 15 years and have owned at OKW for 15yrs and BWV for 11yrs and I have to say that OKW is my favorite resort. The accommodations are much larger than all of the other vacation club resorts. Because it is more spread out, there is less hustle and bustle and much more relaxing for our family. As it has been pointed out in other posts, there are handicap rooms available as well as first floor rooms. The Disney staff is very helpful in trying to get you the type room you request. Transportation is very accessible and you are never more than 100 yards from a bus stop to take you to all of the parks and attractions.

There is no comparison between OKW and the value resorts. OKW wins hands down.
