Size of a ford fusion

I was wondering if anyone has rented a ford fusion ..or drives one. There will be 5 of us ( 4 adults and one booster seat ). I'm not so much worried about us fitting in the car, its the baggage. We will probably have 3 suitcases and a stroller and im just not sure they will fit in the trunk. I already have an suv rented, but can get a fusion for our 8 days for $125 instead of the $250 for the suv. Any thoughts? I was going to book it and go check out a ford on a car lot and see.

It could be a little snug in the passenger compartment as well. If the suitcases are not full size (and the stroller is small), you wouldn't have much of an issue. If it's a large stroller, you'll need another plan.

Of course, if you're staying at a Disney resort, part of your party could go on DME and your luggage would also be transported. For the remainder of your time, you'd only have to worry about the stroller (assuming you're on a BAGS participating airline for when it comes time to leave the World.)

You won't fit. We had a family of 4 once, each with one suitcase and personal bag, and were given a small SUV (Saturn I think). We barely got the doors closed. We would have never made it in a car.

If you're concerned about money, see what a minivan costs. More room than an SUV and probably less money.

I own a 2011 Fusion, and honestly - I think you will be a crowded in it. Two adults or 3 children can fit comfortably in the rear seats, but not 2 adults with a booster seat in the middle - unless the adults are more petite than average. The trunk is a good size as my trunk holds my children's hockey and/or baseball bags in it, some fold-up chairs, and a large shade canopy - with Goalie pads at times, however depending on the size of your stroller, you may have to drop one of the rear seats to fit it into the trunk, and that will take away one seat from the rear.

In your case, I would go with the SUV that you mentioned.

A slightly different twist on this:

Keep in mind that with most rental companies, you may not get the exact car you signed up for. For example, I just rented from Alamo in MCO last week. Rented a Standard, listed as Ford Fusion OR SIMILAR.

The nice thing with Alamo is you get to pick your car from the line. I don't recall seeing any Ford Fusions. I think at least half of the cars in the Standard line were Chevy Malibus and we picked a Mazda 6.

Also, if you happen to be using Alamo (at MCO), I believe the standards and full sizes are in the same row, so you can pick either at the rate you reserved. There were also several Chevy Impalas (full size) in the row, but I didn't need the extra space so I took the smaller.

My main point, though, is if you rented from almost all of the agencies onsite at MCO, just because you rented a Ford Fusion, doesn't mean that's what you'll get.

You are correct, there are no standard sections at Alamo (or National) at MCO. If you rent a standard car, you automatically go to full size.

A Fusion is considered a standard size car. There is no standard size section at MCO, you will select from the full size section. You would be better off selecting an Impala, which has a very large trunk and passenger compartment.

Save your money, a SUV is not all that large and you could always upgrade when you get there if necessary.

...or just hold both reservations. Take a walk out to the lot before doing the counter/kiosk and see whats there.

The SUVs have more passenger room, but not a lot more luggage space (unless you pack it to the roof).
On our last trip to Florida in June, I had a full size car booked with Hertz and was given a choice between a couple of SUVs at pickup. We took the Equinox which seemed quite large, but by the time we had put our 2 suitcases, 2 carry-ons and 2 laptop bags in the back, we were already full to the top of the back seat and had a hard time pulling the storage cover over it. We stopped for a few snacks and groceries on our way to the hotel and had to put them in the back seat.
If we had brought the whole family with us, I think we would definitely have been short on space.
We have used an Impala and a Mazda 6 in the past and both have decent trunks, the Impala's was huge. Had a Charger last year and it looked like it should have a large trunk, but was pretty jammed with a couple of cases and a couple of carry-ons.

Thanks for this thread. We're doing the large car vs intermediate SUV debate right now. I think we will ultimately choose the large car since it seems to have more trunk space. We rented a Fusion recently for work and I thought the trunk looked HUGE comlared to the back of, say, an Escape. We have 3 adults, 2 kids and don't pack heavy but I wonder if the smaller SUV's would have the cargo room we need.

Im still debating. What we have reserved is the dodge journey crossover which is a pretty good size i think. The prices have gone back up though, so I will keep an eye on it and see if they go back down. The full size right now ( intermediate too ) is much more than i have the journey for at this point.

It will be a Dodge Journey or similar. We don't guarantee any specific model or make. Just the class. I am speaking for National, Alamo or Enterprise.

"Full size crossover" is the class. I assume it will not be a small or intermediate SUV, they are both a different class. What other cars could be in the fullsize crossover class?

Dodge Journey is listed as a Standard SUV. You do realize that the Journey is listed as only holding 3 pieces of luggage, right? Where as the Impala, a full size car, holds 4 pieces of luggage (I have seen a lot of luggage put into these).
As to what others fall into that class, I really do not know. Usually when someone comes to National with a cross over request, I send them over to Alamo cause they have them more often than National. To be totally and completely honest, I cannot tell the difference between crossovers and SUVs and the classification of any of them, except the full size SUVs. Cars and vans, no prob. SUVs and crossovers not very conversant.
