I'm wondering about the size and amenities of the 1BR at Silver Lake Resort. I have read there is a B and D unit. Is the 1 BR with a full kitchen one of these, and does it have a king or queen bed?

Renting a one bedroom is dangerous at Silver Lake since there are so many different types.

The best one bedroom units are the ones that combine with the two bedroom units to make a three bedroom unit in buildings 1700, 1800, 800 and 900.

These have a full kitchen, washer dryer and jetted tub (standard size for one person). These units have all had a king size bed. The living area and bathroom are small, but they are nice enough.

There are also smaller, not as nice one bedroom units in the older buildings (100-700). I haven't stayed in these, but have heard they are more like a bedroom with a partial kitchen.

Many of the units in buildings 1700, 1800, 900 and 800 have two bedroom units that consist of a one bedroom unit and an attached studio. These one bedroom units are nice with a large bathroom, but the bedroom is small. There is barely enough room to walk around the king size bed. The kitchen and living areas are nice.

Ideally, I'd stick to a two bedroom at Silver Lake. Whenever I've been unhappy when assigned one of the smaller one bedroom units, they offer to upgrade me for an outrageous amount of money.

Thanks, bearzabout.

I called and it seems that the one in question is around 450 sq. ft., so that leads me to believe that it is one of the smaller ones, even though it is designated as having a full kitchen. It's a shame, as I think this is a great location. I would just really rather have a larger room.

I stayed in the smaller one bedroom. It was listed as having a full kitchen but it did not have a dishwasher. I don't think it had a big stove either. It might have been a 2 burner but I'm not sure. The living area was quite small. There was no washing machine or dryer in the unit. It's better than staying in a hotel room. I have also stayed in the one bedroom that connects to the studio and that was much bigger. That fit our family of 4 a lot better. HTH

Silver Lake's website lists the following description for 1 bedroom units:

"One-bedroom villas feature 735-1470 sq. ft. of living area, a king-sized bed in the master bedroom, two queen-sized sofa sleepers in the great room, two full baths, three televisions with cable hook-up and HBO (including a 48” television in the entertainment area), and a large living/entertainment area with wet bar."

It looks to me as though they are trying to rent the studio/lockoffs as one bedroom units. I think it is wise to look elsewhere.

Okay, that looks like what I read somewhere too. Now I'm really wondering about this. I will be renting through govt. travel, so I don't know if that pulls from a different inventory of units than skyauction or expedia or whatever. I'm used to the larger units at VV @ Pkwy, so I guess I'm kind of spoiled... If I thought this would be a larger unit, I'd go for it, as I really like the location, but I may just wait around to see what else pops up.

Thanks so much for your help!

It is definitely smaller and not as nice as the larger one bedroom at VV @ Pkwy. I prefer the location of SL to VV @ Pkwy. Also, I find there are more activities for the kids at SL. But I much prefer the units at VV @ Pkwy to SL.

seems the inventory for all those good sites NOW seem to be the smaller units with two bedroom units rarely showing up...

update....did see some two bedrooms and one three bedroom for silver lake silver points posted last night on getaway weeks....by this morining the 3 bedroom was "gone"

so it is probably the luck of the inventory view ( which they say is constantly changing....but more so after the weekend update on RCI ) that determines what might be available?

Does anyone know anything about a one bedroom unit at Silver Lake that is 6(max occupancy)/4 (privacy) with a full kitchen.

I would believe that this would be a larger one bedroom but not sure?
Any thoughts?
Thank you

are you looking at silver lake....

evidently they are now charging a HOUSEKEEPING fee.....charged to exchangers in addition to exchange/auction costs....someone posted about this on TUG

with regard to your question have you checked the silver lake website.....

is this silver lake or silver lake points.....that might be the difference in size ...

extra vacations costs have risen now.....they seem to have a "standard" rate regardless of what you book...

Yes, I am looking at it through rci Extra vacations. It is coming up at $298 (plus $58 guest certificate) - 1 bedroom (6/4) , full kitchen. Mostly everything else on RCI EV for the same time period is coming up at $593.99.

Do you have any idea how much the housekeeping fee is? I assume this is for a midweek cleaning? Is it mandatory or can we decline?

I read through some older Silver Lake info. on DIS and it looks like a 1 bedroom 6/4 would be quite roomy.

Thanks for the info.

Silver Lake Housekeeping fees off Skyauction:

NEW HOUSEKEEPING FEES!!!!!!
HOTEL US$15
1 BED LOCK OFF US$30
1 BED ROYAL 2 BEDR. US$40
3 BED US$65

My guess they are manditory since the unit must be cleaned after each stay. I doubt it is for mid-week cleaning. I'm hoping they just charge me once for a two week stay.

Their maintenance has been declining for years. I'm hoping the fees help increase the standards (it may be wishful thinking).

I've stayed there over 15 times, but I'm about to stop booking this resort. I sure do love the short drive though.

Just a reminder that booking a one bedroom at Silver Lake is always risky. Some of their units are very small. You never really know what you are going to get until you check in. If you are unhappy, they will either say tough luck or try to charge you a ridiculous amount to move you to a larger one bedroom.

In my opinion, it is not worth the risk.

looking at silver lake now for december .....pricing is coming in at 349$ and 399$ ( this is not Silver Points ) so it would be older units from the early phases of Silver Lake

that is USD by the way

VV at Parkway is showing at 227$ but there are no TWO bedrooms showing for december on EV
