Hi-

This is my first post, so I apologize if I am in the wrong area?

I am 5'9", size 28//4X and going to Disneyland Ca this week. Last time I was there (same size) was 3 yrs ago and I only rode Pirates of the Carribean and Its a Small world. I actually like rides but always pretend not to because I want to avoid the whole, "You don't fit" thing.

I'm writing in hopes that someone can let me know what rides to avoid and what rides I won't have a problem with. I appreciate any advice- :confused3

Thank you!!

Hi there! Welcome!:goodvibes

I moved this thread over to the main Disneyland planning forum, where you will get more responses!

DH is a BIG guy (6'+, size 40/42 waist) and has no trouble getting on any of the rides (hasn't tried Mulholland Madness, but I doubt his legs would fit) at DLR. He has had trouble other places (Santa Cruz boardwalk), but never at Disney. I think most "Pooh-sized" people will agree.

Here are some more threads on the subject:

You will fit on every ride. Enjoy.

You'll be able to go on whatever ride you want to! My Dad is a big guy and he can go on all the rides :thumbsup2 The only trouble you may have is with the Astro Orbitor "rocket ride", but that's more of a height thing rather than a size thing, as it seems that most people over about 5'3" have quite a time wrangling in & out of those ride vehicles  I'm 5' 10" and let's just say that for it to be comfortable (once I've got into the little vehicle that's tilted at an odd angle), I'd pretty much have to hang my legs over the side!

Have fun on your trip!

I used to be a 24/26 and I have fit on every ride in DL and DCA but I am on the shorter side of you I am 5'5, theres a couple rides where it will be snug but you will still fit fine!!!
I just recommend not riding with a child on the rides you have to share a lap bar/belt, because snug on you will be very loose on them!

I agree with the others. I was close to your size and the only one that was a tight squeeze was Mulholland Madness. That was more because of the length of my legs, not the size of them. (I am 5'11").

Thank you for asking! I'm a Pooh-sized person, too, and I always like knowing that if I decide to try something, I won't be humiliated! :)

Thank you so much for the responses! I'm cautiously excited because I've been giving the family speech after speech about how I wouldn't be riding much and DH (6'3", 350+ & not remotely worried) informed me that because we're just going with our family this time, not in a large group like we did last time, that it would be odd for me to sit each ride out while he rides with our 2 kids. I just get embarrassed so easily. I can't wait to come back and share my experience!

Awwww don't be embarassed! Disneyland is for EVERYONE to enjoy, and if anyone gives you any odd looks or comments in line, THEY'RE the ones who should be embarassed! Go and have fun!

I'm a big gal and know what you mean, add to the fact I'm 60 and it's a whole new set of issues. I go on pretty much everything. Haunted Mansion is easy to get on and off also. When you go on Thunder Mountain, (and you must) sit by yourself. Have the kids sit by themselves and your husband by himself. The lap bars will fit better. On Matterhorn go as a single also, you will be more comfortable. When you are in line and you see the seat for the ride, if you are nervous about squeezing in just tell them you are riding single. All the seats will fit a extra large pooh-sized rider. Please have fun, life is too short to not enjoy everything. I finally got over embarrassment about my size and went on some water slides. SO much fun.

As other poster's have said, you should be able to ride pretty much everything with no issues.

I would suggest checking out photo's of the rides, which you can do at allears.net. Click on the Disneyland tab at the top and then on the side bar you can view pictures of the ride "vehicles". Not really sure what they call them...but you can at least get an idea for what will be easy to get in/out of and what the kids will need to do separately.

I did this on our last trip for my football linebacker sized hubby and my wheelchair bound sister. Worked great and I knew which rides to avoid all together and which would be no problem at all!:thumbsup2

I am also 5'9" pooh sized. You will be fine!

I have riden everything except the swings at DCA (which are currently closed and being redone to Silly Symphony Swings). I have also not tried the Mailiboomer, or the Golden Zehper, both also in DCA.

I have a little space issue on Space Mtn (space issue, get it! :rotfl:), but that's because my legs are long and they touch the back of the seat in front of me. It's a lot easier to get out of than the one at WDW with that stupid bar right in the middle and you sit so low ... but that's another story.

The only thing with Space is there is some sort of total car weight restriction ... I don't know what it is, but if the CM telling you which row to get in doesn't pay attention, someone in your car may have to hop out and into another car. I have been on it too many times to count and it's only happened once. Both cars were full of adults (total of 12 adults). It was no big deal, here's what happened. The car pulled forward for the lap bar check, then the CM asked DH and I if we'd switch to a different car. They "beeped" us over to where they do the HA loading. We hopped out, that car beeped back over, then took off with our seats empty. They loaded us and some other people transfering from a wheel chair and their party into another car and we were off. No one said "hey get those fat people outta that car!" or made us in any way feel like we were being singled out. It was very casual, and if I remember correctly, I had to ask if something was wrong. It's quite common for the cars to be switched on the track for the HA loading. You'll probably hear the "beeping" that happens when the cars are moved around on the tracks several times while waiting. So hardly anyone pays attention to it anway. But like I said out of all the times I have riden this ride, it's only happened once.

DH and I have even riden Peter Pan together (he's pooh sized too) and it was fine. I was little worried the first time because I didn't konw what to expect, but all was fine. You could do one kid with each parent onthat ride.

As others have said, check out the photos of the ride vehicles before you go. Worst case, you could always take the "chicken exit" out of any ride at the last min if you got too worried, but I say give it a try!

As another 'luxury guest' I say go for it - have a great time with your family :)

* I read somewhere that 'luxury guest' is Disney speak for those of us that are big boned :rolleyes1

Also know that if you are having difficulties or need a little extra time or assistance, the CM's are wonderful about it. They are not like the general public that you may be afraid of, they will try to make it as easy as possible for you, with a smile on their face the whole time.

I hope you have a magical trip.:goodvibes

I did not know that, I like that... :) regarding luxury guest.... I can now state that is what I am, and in the event someone asks me how they can become such, I just might keep it to myself (In the event that the person would not qualify he he)

Also....... I am 5 8, and on BTMRR, I have a tendency to get one bruised knee, so beware! It is just a small bruise. So just watch your legs, since you are taller from myself. Enjoy all of the rides.... If you have no problem with Space Mountain, then you will be fine on everything. ~ No worries ~ ...... I hope that you and your DH have a wonderfully awesome time!

I'm just gonna come out and say it. I'm fat! I'm 5"10 with a 48 inch waist and once again 300lbs. For the most part, I fit comfortably within the ride vehicles with the exception of a few,

Space Mountain: not enough room for my legs to spread out, but the lap bar fits comfortably. I deal with my knees being squished together for a few minutes and get over it.

Winnie the Pooh: this one not giving enough room for my feet or my knees in the ride vehicle. Once again, the lap bar fits comfortably.

Mulholland Madness: Most people are not comfortable on this one. Same issues as above.

Finding Nemo: This is the only ride where my fat butt has been a problem. The seats are small and uncomfortable. I feel bad the I am probably squishing my big sweaty body up against strangers.

In all realty, Disney is pretty big people friendly. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time and don't be concerned about your size.

Thank you for asking this question! I too am 'pooh sized' ;) okay, fat and have been wondering about the rides at Disney.

I was at WDW a couple of years ago and had no real problems. I did most rides but didn't try Space (and I don't think I would like it either!). The only ride I had any trouble on was actualy IASW. We were sat in the front row of the boat. It wasn't that I didn't fit but that my legs were so squashed and really uncomfortable (I think this might be just a front row problem?)

Anyway have a wonderful time and please please don't hold back on riding the rides. Disney is the one 'fun park' in the world that I feel relaxed and happy to ride the rides.

Please come back and tell us how you got on.
