pre op i was told that i would have my right shoulder immobile for 3 weeks, that it would be out a couple of inches from my side and then i would start phys. therapy. post op it is strapped to my side in a sling. no hope of wearing a bra, and i have to wear ds's tee shirts with the right side of it over my arm. this is now for six weeks. i am getting skin irritation where my skin touches, it hurts all of the time but especially at night. i tried driving my car up the street wih my neighbor starting it and putting it in gear but she wouldn't let me leave the street. it takes me forever to do what i could do before. i wrote out the bills with my left hand. same with putting on my makeup. my neighbor took me grocery shopping today. i am so bored and impatient. i can't cook meals that require 2 hands. you will either get small caps or all large caps. can't do both. i know iam whining and having a pity party. i cacelled my january cruise. RANT,RANT RANT!!!!!!

I've been wondering how you are doing? I'm so sorry it's taking so long to heal and still painful. Got any good books to read? I think you should hire a chef while you're recouping. Good luck

i guess once thet got in there he found more damaged than what was on the mri. i had two tears instead of the one complete tear that showed and they had to cut off some of the clavicle because of impingement. i have a good book but i can't get comfortable enough to read and turn the pages.

Dawn, I've been there. It hurts bad!! I found that when I sat up it hurt more (gravity pulling the girls down and pulling on the stitchs). I spent alot of time propped on the couch. Feel free to RANT as much as you want.

I was thinking of you. Hope you're feeling better soon. :grouphug:

thanks everyone. even jude is bored hanging out with me. i took him for a walk down the street. i was miserable and we are still bored.

Ouch. This past March I had the same thing. I'm still trying to recover. :grouphug: I've learned to do lots with my left hand though. :thumbsup2 It has only been in the past 2 weeks that I've noticed significant improvement over many many months. I can finally raise my arm above my shoulder and the constant aching/pain has finally eased. I lived on Vicodin and Darvocet for over 2 months. I hope yours goes more smoothly than mine.

Dawn When I cracked the ball of my shoulder a few years ago they could only imobilise it with the strap and sling thing as well. Get and use some BodyGlide it worked wonders for the skin as to it won't be rubbing it raw.

Hang in there Mine mostly worked it's way loose agian but range of motion is still not what it once was.

yikes, i am not surprised by the length of time however. i had simple fracture of my elbow several years ago from skiing. it took months to get it straight and it was only immobilized for ten days!

As suggested BodyGlide and or Neosporin(sp) both will help with the rubbing. I have to say, I'll see your 6 weeks and raise you 22!! I just got off 22 weeks of bed rest from 2 back surgeries. I know how boring it can be. You can only watch so many movies and read so many books, before you go bouncing off the walls.

I saw where you had canceled your Jan cruise, have you thought about rebooking for a later date? I found that once I had a trip to look forward to, my time seemed to fly by. So think about rebooking, even if you are still under doctor care.

Dawn, I feel your pain... I hope you feel better soon... :grouphug: I will keep you in my thought's and prayer's.

where do i get bodyglide?

Many outdoor stores ( REI ,EMS,Dickssporting) carry it running stores as well.

I even heard that you can get it on-line at Drugstore.com.

That's too bad you had to cancel your vacation, Dawn. I sure hope your shoulder gets better a LOT faster than the doctors are telling you!

Dawn, tegaderms are even better than Body Glide for chaffing against clothing. I even know of one horrible DISer who steals them to use on her feet at WDW. :)

My uncle, a runner, uses Body Glide and likes it. He gets it at the drug store.

All my best for a complete and speedy recovery!!!!

Oh no! Whine away!! :rotfl: It really makes you feel better, I know.

Since your going to put it off, then start looking at different ideas. Order brochures, at least get in the planning mode. If it's not a trip then something else. Give yourself something to look forward to. Start the process and the planning and the countdown tag. When I found out my release date was the 6th. I started looking for something for the 7th. Mentally it helped me so much. It was like I came alive again.
