Six people...should we?

There are six people going on our next trip, and we have already ordered tickets WITHOUT the plan. It's still pretty far away, but is it possible to upgrade to the DDP? Is it worth it? I don't know much about what it includes, I've looked at certain threads and things but I can't decide if it's going to be worth our time.

We'll be there for about a week, if that makes a difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance! :wave2:

I like your name! ;) In order to upgrade I think you would only need to add a one day base ticket on per person to upgrade to the plan. What are the ages of the people going?

One day passes cost $71 each. For me, that would be enough to just let the Dining Plan slide. Even if you would still save money, you'd clearly save a lot less ($71 less, at least in the short-term), and it would bug me to have these one day passes laying around, feeling a moral obligation to my mother to use them one day ("Don't waste money!")

Most of the times these passes don't go to waste. We see them as a downpayment for our APs. We leave next week and my AP needs to be renewed, so I'll be applying my one day ticket from our August trip to my AP renewal. Hubby will do the same next April when his AP expires. My grandson has a one day ticket left from free DDP last year, that we'll use to buy him a larger ticket to use along with some cast one day hoppers that need to be used before they expire in December. Of course, if the OP was going to WDW for a once in a lifetime trip, then yes, it may not be cost efficient. I guess it all matters if you're a regular visitor or not. Since you're a DVC member, I would think you go to WDW regularly, so applying one day tickets to another ticket would be an option for you. As DVC members ourselves, we visit WDW 4-5 trips a year, and no one can beat the price of DVC APs.

My computations indicate that we're saving between $40 and $120 per person using the Dining Plan -- probably a lot closer to the $40. (The $120 number would apply only if we were going to order appetizers and desserts at every meal -- absolutely no way that was going to happen without the Dining Plan!!!!!)

Paying $71 more to save $40, even if I'll use that $71 in two or three years from now, doesn't sound like a good idea to me, especially given how likely it is I'll lose the pass! :) Also, keep in mind that buying that admission now means that when you try to use it, two or three years from now, it may make you again ineligible for the Dining Plan, or some other package that you're aiming for then. There are a lot of arguments both ways, but for us, it doesn't make sense to buy extra admission to qualify for the Dining Plan.

I do think that we're just going to stick to not using it for this trip. Especially since the meal prices will be split between two different parties. Thanks again so so much for helping us decide!!! The DIS rocks! :grouphug:
