Six Flags in TX, MO, IL ???

HP - I don't think that security does near the job that it should do after dark - there are plenty of nooks and crannies that are inviting areas for less-than-desirable behavior. If your son is on a band trip, it is likely that he will stay in a large group, and based on that I wouldn't worry as much. Just make sure that they all stay together when it's time to go back to the buses at the end of the evening.

Mamajoan - The name Astroworld is in reference to our Houston Astros baseball team. We're also home to AstroTurf, the Astrodome (r.i.p.), and plenty of astronauts. I guess it's a whole theme thing.

Mamajoan-From what I remember from my many field trips was that there were picnic areas where you could bring a lunch. But that was quite a few years back. I would probably call just to make sure. :)

Just a couple of tips about Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Its a great park but can get VERY hot. It is built in a quarry and the breeze, if there is any, doesn't blow a lot down there. We have also found the the water hydrants are scarce. They have them but not in a great quanity. Its been a couple of years since we have been there but we enjoyed the laser show at night. Though we have never been, the water park sounds like lots of fun. I believe it is included in the price of your ticket. And as far as I know, there are no eating places close by unless the area has built up some since we were there. Its not like Six Flags Over Texas where you can walk out the gate, cross the street and eat. I don't know if there are picnic tables to eat lunch at or not. I know that Six Flags Over Texas has a nice shaded area outside the park to eat lunch.

and for the Gurnee, Ill area.. well there are some special folks that we will get to hook up with up there.
;)

Are you allowed to bring food into the parks, like are there a picnic areas available?
No. Large groups, who reserve the picnic area can meet there and bring in their lunch but, not individuals. You can however, leave the park getting a handstamp and, eat at/in your car or, elsewhere and, re-enter.

there's a great Mexican buffet near Six Flags over Texas

If you go to Fiesta Texas, don't forget that you also have a Sea World in the area not to mention all the other attractions that San Antonio offers. San Antone is a beautiful place with tons to do. And I agree that Schlitterbahn is another great place and very close to San Antonio.

I avoid Six Flags Over Texas like the plague. The last time I went, the park was filthy, the employees were not friendly & food was horrible.

It wasn't worth the almost $40 IMO.

I grew in the DFW area, and have been to SFOT more times than I can remember. It was a great park when I was a kid, and has evolved into an even greater park. Despite the Roaring Rapids death a few years ago, it is an extremely safe and clean park.

Try to go to the park when the Dallas area kiddies are in school. (For the most part, we start in August and end in May.) I believe the last time I went was in April/May of last year. There were no lines!!!! I got to ride Titan twice with minimal wait. I also practically walked on the Texas Giant (warning: it is an extremely bumpy ride, so do not go on it after eating, if your back is hurting, or if you have a headache-it will make the pain that much more worse. I speak from experience. Oh, and HOLD on tight to your belongings-I nearly lost my purse on the Giant several years ago LOL!)

SFOT also has a new Superman ride-it looks really awesome!

The only negative when going early in the season is that the shows are not up and running yet. Oh, and the park closes a little earlier.

I think www.sixflags.com is the parks web address, so you might want to check it out before you go.

All in all SFOT is a really great park for thrill rides.

Schlitterbahn, in New Braunfels, is also a great waterpark. I've been there several times. Thier website is: http://www.schlitterbahn.com/

In that region too there is also a cavern (I believe it's called Longhorn Caverns, and the one in Austin is Innerspace, and they might be connected) down there that you can check out if you're into that sort of thing. Also, check out Gruene, Texas just south of Austin-it has some great resturants and shops. Their is also wine-tasting too.

Just a few more things about Six Flags Fiesta Texas, no they will not let you bring food in, and they have even made me throw away my water bottles a couple of times. Really picky, want you to buy only their food which is way overpriced and not that great. Get a hand stamp and go eat somewhere a few minutes away along IH-10. If you have time go to Schlitterbahn! There is a "little known" cave in Boerne no too far away called Cave Without a Name. Small but full of history and beautiful stuff.
