When taking the monorail, For those of you that do not know, and have little ones or big kids at heart :wave2: if you ask nicely, you can often sit up front with the driver and you will even get a "Co-Pilots License". Limit is four though, so try and the nearest cast member first ;) If you are really lucky, like we were last time, the driver may even let your little guy steer for a bit! It is a great view, and great fun!

Just ask the CM at the monorail station and if no one is up front...
best place is Epcot or the TTC to EPCOT ::MickeyMo

Be aware that if you are on the resort monorail and there is someone waiting at the next resort, you may have to get out of the front and let someone else on. This has happened to us.

I did about six years ago. Just me and my husband on our honeymoon. They didn't say anything about it. They driver was really nice and congratulatory about it.

I did it the night before my wedding. My wedding party and I went to watch the fireworks at the Contemporary. Afterwards, the guys & girls split up.

While waiting for the monorail I happened to mention to my Maid of Honor in all my years of going to Disney I had never ridden up front in the monorail. Well her being the loud mouth she is...LOL... asked the CM if we could ride up front since I was getting married the next day. There was a family in front of us & the CM said we could have the next one. The little girl in the family looked at me & asked if I was really getting married IN Disney World (she seemed like she thought it was the best idea...LOL!). When I told her I was she insisted we take the next train & her and her family would wait. It was so sweet.

We ended up talking to the monorail driver & went around like 6 times with him. :rotfl2:

Just to add to our monorail night, the next day when DH & I were walking out of the Wedding Pavilion our monorail driver was driving the monorail as it passed the pavilion. He stopped the train, apparntly announced what was happening (that we had just got married) & attempted to play the wedding march with the monorail horn...LOL!

He also left DH & I the nicest congratulation message at the GF for us & had chocolate covered strawberries & champange sent to us after the wedding in our room.

We saw him a few times after that & everytime he saw us, he would announce on the train who we were & that we had just gotten married.

Really a sweet CM. I will always remember him for that. :wizard:

But anyway, riding up front is really fun even as an adult. And if you are in the front already, the next stop should not make you get out. They should make the family waiting, wait for the next free train.

Just a note - limit four means limit four

I went with my mom, DH, DD and infant son and we were not all allowed up front!

Has anyone done this without kids?

Last year we were in the first car of the monorail and they invited us up with the driver. It was a treat since we didn't even know this was allowed. :p

last june we were down there on our honeymoon, and we got to sit up front. from the TTC to MK. The trip took much longer then normal as we had to stop for about 5 - 10 minutes while they put another train on the track (or something like that) It was an amazing view. We got stopped twice. Between TTC and Contemporary, and Contemporary and MK!

We have also been lucky enough to ride up front at least once on each trip. Once, I was pregnant with DD and they had room for two, so DS and DH snagged the two seats (without even asking if I wanted to ride - no discussion at all), so I had to sit (looking like a very pregnant loser) by myself in the regular car. The next trip, there were five of us and DD in a stroller and yup, you guessed it...room for four and I got kicked to the curb again. Rode in the back. Next trip, if there is limited room, I'm knocking DH out of the way. He can ride with the stroller in the back.

They also will not allow fold up strollers up front if there are four people

Oh no!!! I didn't know this. It will be me, my DH, my DD (20 months) and DS(4) who is the HUGE monorail fan. We will have the fold up double stroller with us. So can one of us sit up there with him then and the other with our DD?? What a bummer, I thought the four of us and the stroller would work? Will they let all four go and put the stroller in the car behind us?

You just have to put the stroller in the car right behind the front car. They don't make you leave your stroller behind. It's just a pain to do that if the other car is full. You are leaving your stroller unattended, out of sight.

2 years ago DH, 2 dds and ds rode up front and loved it. I rode in the regular monorail car because it meant more to them. Last year we weren't able to get a chance to because every time we asked someone was already in the front. Hope that we do this year because ds is a huge monorail fan. Maybe the adults that are riding without any children should ask after the first stop if there are any children waiting to ride. THis is a huge treat for kids, and since I volunteered to sit it out I think adults could make do with one stop.

We will be there in 9 days for DD's sweet 16 birthday, I think she would like to do this again, last time she did it she was 8!!! :goodvibes

"Has anyone done this without kids? "

In December of 2002, DH, his dad and I were waiting at the GF for the monorail. "Pa" was like a little kid, so excited that he was FINALLY going to get to ride the monorail. We were not the first family in the line, but when it was our turn to board, the CM at the gate asked us if we would like to ride up front. That was a 17 day vacation, including a Disney cruise, and this is one of his favorite memories! He still carries his co-pilot license in his wallet.

We did this on our last trip for the first time. We were exploring the monorail resorts and we asked at each one if we could ride up front. When we were at the Contemporary going to the GF we asked and we got up front. :) It was an amazing ride and really a highlight for DS who was almost 2 at the time. He loved the "train" and kept saying "faster - faster - faster". It was hilarious. The CM who was the driver was so nice and he really seemed to get a kick out of DS's reactions.

We were allowed to bring out folded up stroller but there were only 3 of us. I didn't realize that about 4 people. If we do this on our next trip we will have to leave behind the stroller or more likely I will just sit in the back with DD and let DH and DS have another ride. :)

I remember going up to the front in the Monorail the last time I went to Disney. That was in '01, & I still have my "co-pilot license" in my wallet. :)
