Site close to playground!

My husband and I are taking our 4 kids ages 1-8 for our first visit to the Fort in February. In the past we have requested a site at other campgrounds to be beside the playground so they can play while we hang out at our camper and we can see them. Is there any sites like this that I should request? I like loop 300 but not sure what the proximity is from the sites to the playground. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

I would suggest you go to the "sticky" link at the top of the forum Site Maps in Google Earth, or click this link. You will need to download and install Google Earth to view the maps.

If you like the 300 loop you would really need 301,302 and maybe 305 & 306 to be able to see the playground from your site. You could also get a site across the street in the 500 loop and still see the playground. Those would be 550, 552, 554,555,556. Not sure of the tree coverage here though so you'd have to inspect it once you're there.

There is also a playground in the 1300 loop. What type of reservation do you have (Premium, Preferred, Full H/U). 500 and 1300 are Premium loops while 300 is Preferred so if you have a preferred you'd need to upgrade to go with 500 or 1300.

It will be tough to get a site where you can watch the kids on a playground.

There are a few sites on the outside of the 300 loop, right at the beginning of the loop, which back up to the playground there.

There is also a nice playground near the entrance to the 1300 loop. There is probably one site there that you can sit in and watch the playground.

The 300 loop is a preferred loop. 1300 is premium.

I would say the best you can do is reserve a preferred or premium site, and then request either 300 or 1300 and ask to be close to the playground.

FYI- The other playground at the Fort is at the Settlement. The 100 loop is closest to that playground, but you can't see it from any of the campsites.

Worst case scenario is that one of you will have to drag a chair and cold one to the playground. There are worse things that could happen. Have fun.

Thanks for the advice! Are the sites in the 300 loop large, shady and private? And are they close to the stream too? My husband and kids love to fish. I know I sound picky but I just want everything to be nice for the whole family. We are so excited!!! Oh and we are in a preferred site but willing to upgrade if needed.

Are the sites in the 300 loop large, shady and private? And are they close to the stream too?

The only preferred loops are 100, 200 and 300 (pet). Most sites in 300 are relatively shady. The loop is also bordered by canals on 2 sides (one by the playground).

Some sites are larger than others, but of course "large" is subjective. The preferred loops are also some of the oldest, so they're generally not quite as spacious as many of the premium loops.

You may not be able to find a site that encompasses everything on your wish list, but I'd make a request based on your top priority. Much better chance of getting what you want if you give them a "thing" vs specific site numbers - i.e., "near the playground"

Just keep in mind that site requests are just that - they're not guaranteed. They generally do their best to accommodate your wishes, although that is usually more difficult during busy times of year or if you check in on a particularly busy day.

Site 1331 is the spot TCD is referring to. It's right next to the playground and you'll be able to sit under your awning and keep an eye on all the kids. An added bonus is that the bus stop is right there too
