Sister Wives

Eh, he’s looking out for himself pure and simple. He sees things are going South. Honestly, he a big jerk but in the same position (spouse/s pulling away, you can see it coming) any smart person would do the same.

Agreed.

And they can see that too. It is like a chess game that land.

Wow, they’re all so angry. I know most of us aren’t Robyn fans but kudos to her for telling Kody she is not moving again. Janelle too. I think Kody wants his own house because he knows it’s all falling apart. He wouldn’t have a legal leg to stand on if the houses are all in the wives names.

I think we have to remember that these discussions were at the height of the pandemic when everyone still thought you had to wipe everything down when you walked in the door. Vaccines were still a ‘someday’ hope and no one should be gathering. At that time anyone getting together with anyone was very frowned upon by everyone and the world was still mostly shut down. It was just after summer before last, not this last summer. In that respect those boys were quite selfish IMO. Not that Kody had it all right. Makes no sense that he’s going house to house and could be dragging the virus along with him.
Ehhh....I think it really depended on where you were. The whole wiping things down thing only lasted until late Spring for many and many many places were up and running very close to back to normal (with masks) by the end and right after the first summer. It's all a matter of personal comfort level...many places (mine included) were back to full in- person school in public schools. This wasn't right when it started...this was after things had opened back up...some were vacationing at Disney by this time, so again just a matter of personal opinions and priorities. From the very beginning Kody and Robyn seemed to be on more of the very covid consciousness while the others, not so much.

Maybe. I just know it’s hard not to see it through today’s version vs a year and several months ago. It picks up right where they left off last season when they had been filming themselves. They’re wearing masks in wide open spaces. But you’re right, the rest of them were over it and Kody and Robyn were not. I think they made a big mistake not holing up as one family and that was in large part due to those boys wanting their way at the height of it all. I mean, I get it, this was really hard for all kids and teenagers (I’ve got two) are inherently selfish creatures but those boys come across as entitled little…brats. Janelle pretty much let them make the decision for the entire family. I don’t know, it’s hard for me to put myself in that scenario I guess.

I had a hunch all along that Robyn wanted to be there to be close by while Dayton is in college. Which is great, and something I might do if I had a child on the spectrum. But I also have a hunch all along that had a background role in getting the entire family to move there, which is more questionable in my opinion. So I never expected her to get on board with going back to Utah right now. That said, I support any one of them saying "No way in hell am I uprooting my kids AGAIN".

This family blew it substantially leaving that cul-de-sac in Vegas.

We can certainly say that about Gabe. But I cut him some more slack since he had just been uprooted during his senior year of high school pre-pandemic, for the "good" of the family. I'm not shocked that he would put his foot down and act a little selfishly. But the older son didn't have much choice. He was out working. Did Kody expect his grown kids to not work and just hole up waiting for him to come around?

Yes. I think this family is so large they represent sort of a microcosm of society at the time, with widely varying approaches to the pandemic. Which is just yet another reason why polygamy is a terrible idea.

Yeah, I felt awful for those kids when they moved them again, it was a crappy thing to do. I’m sure there’s more to the conversations with creative editing and I admit I’m looking at from my own family perspective. As hard as it was my grown DD made the decision to stay put where she was until she felt it was safe and there’s just no way in hell I’d let my kids speak that way about their father even if I happened to agree with them. Of course they can speak about how they feel but there’s a respectful way to go about it. But then my DH is not a knob like Kody. I think the problem is they talk AT each other and not TO each other. And Janelle very much takes the woman role (a rung lower in their lifestyle) vs the mom role. Again, I’m not in their position but that’s how it’s presented for TV.

I could have sworn that although Robyn did not think Las Vegas was a good place long term for the family, she was one saying, "What is the rush? We just got settled here."

I really thought she was one that was against it in the beginning. A la we are happy here.

Many parents stay together for the kids; this family, in my opinion stays together for the show ($$)
You know what? I think they would have been fine if they never did the TV show and stayed in their “bubble” of like minded people. But now each of those ladies knows what it’s like to have their own home and run their own ship. There’s really no going back after that.

This is sexist and no way I'd ever EVER want to live but Polygamy is a patriarchal family way. Cody has given his wives too much of a voice and it will never work. I know this from being married to a guy with 2 older sisters in a matriarchal family. No decisions can ever be made smoothly with the 4 of us ladies...MIL and myself plus the 2 sister in laws. And most times my voice is last to be heard (about 98% of the time). And this has caused a lot of marital turmoil and nearly ended our marriage. Amazing, honestly, that we have survived 25 years. So it is no surprise Cody's marriages are all falling apart. He'll be lucky to end up with 1 wife. He should maybe try to take back the power...hate to say it.

Also...what Christine said at the end (why would I, in dysfunctional marriage, ever want to live with another wife right over there who is in a full functional marriage...who would want to live like that). Um, a polygamist. That's what you signed up for, Christine. Now seems you are using it as an excuse for leaving since you didn't get your way about Utah.

I think Christine and Janelle were always okay with the family when Mary was top dog since she was first wife and they came after. But when 4th wife, Robyn, came along and ousted Mary as top dog they have a hard time being still on the back burners. But now with Mary on the outs, Janelle has moved up in station so she is less bothered. But Christine has deduced that she is #4. Maybe she hoped, with Robyn, she would stay #3 and no longer be bottom.

I just recall thinking all along that she had a hidden motivation for supporting the move. I'd have to go back and rewatch, and I'm not sure I have it in me. LOL.

If I had to guess, I'd say she probably didn't support it until she did.

i also think it's a p--- poor excuse against moving back to utah to say that it could expose the remaining kids to teasing and ridicule because of their polygamous lifestyle. if anything causes ridicule it's exposing their dysfunctional lives on international television, all over social media and in tabloids. they don't consider that their kids, if teased at school are getting it based on tony's taco demands, kody's fixation with his hair, meri being berated over her catfishing years after the fact, fathers actively watching their daughter giving birth in their master bathtubs....? when they signed up for this gig they were putting their kids on blast.

interestingly (to me at least), on the current season of real housewives of salt lake city the topic of polygamy has come up. not polygamy at all faith based-and several individuals have said they know of/do business with known 'mainstream' polygamists who live very mainstream lives in utah, are not hiding the facts of their lifestyles-and no one gives it a second thought. so the argument that they will be persecuted for it seems to hold little weight.

So, I get the idea that even though the Browns are mainstream, the families they come from are not. My impression is that they’ve always had one foot in and one foot out. In St George (where my dad’s family is from) when I was a kid it seemed like a lot of them lived double lives. And they got dragged openly. While it seems like a nice little resort town now, there is a very real ugliness just below the surface. It’s not something I recognized until I was a young adult. I can see why she wouldn’t want to go back. I can’t speak for Salt Lake (where my mom’s family is from) because I didn’t spend as much time there but it’s a much bigger place and they don’t have the FDLS right on their border.
