My sister just called to tell me she is going to have a boy on July 19th. She just found out she was pregnant five days ago. Dh does not believe her. I do not know what to think. She had surgery to remove cysts on her ovary's several months ago. I would have thought they would have done a pregnancy test before hand. I guess not. This is her second child. Her DD is sixteen. It will be quite an adjustment for her. I guess I am still in shock.

Did she think she was in menopause or something? Was she not regular beforehand?

Wow! That would be quite a surprise!

7 mo  , does she know what causes that

Oh, My!! So glad it is her and not me :)

7 months? Does not give her long to get things ready.

WOW! Only 2 months to adjust to the news! Get ready, the baby's coming fast!

Pop Daddy you kill me.:D

I am glad she has a lot of friends and family around to help her. They are already planning a huge baby shower for her. I will start looking for things on-line to send home.

Come on now!!! How could you NOT know???!!!!???

No menstration didn't clue her in. Fluttering movements in her belly, then turning into kicks. And so on and so on..........

Did she not gain any weight?? Is she not showing???

This sounds like a bad movie I saw once on the Lifetime network.

I hope all goes well for her AND the baby.

7 mos. is a long way to go without knowing but, I did go 3 mos myself without even suspecting. :o When my tummy started reaching the copier machine before I did, I started to put some thought in it! Thank goodness for those EPT's!

I hope all goes well for your sister and the baby and, your BIL.

A shower is a wonderful thing after 16 years! :smooth:

My cousins wife didn't know she was pregnant until she was in labor! She is on the depo shots and went in to get her shot and had to take a blood test(all other ones had come back negative), when they said she was pregnant she said there was no way because her back was killing her and she was on her ******. They made her go into the hospital and a couple of hours later she had a baby girl. When I asked her didn't she feel anything or notice any weight gain(she's already a big girl) she said no, and all her clothes still fit her and she didn't show. All I know is that I wished I was at the house when my cousin heard the message that he was a Daddy again.

I do know that some of the effects of Depo is that you don't menstruate. My SIL hasn't since she had my nephew 6 years ago.

Stranger things have happened. My best friend's mom didn't know she was pregnant until she arrived at the hospital with stomach cramps and my friend was born. My friend slept in a dresser drawer for her first week because no one was expecting her.

She had surgery to remove cysts on her ovary's several months ago. I would have thought they would have done a pregnancy test before hand. I guess not.
I find it hard to believe this story. In order to even find the cysts, they would have had to do an ultrasound of the area (or CT scan). They don't just go in blindly to remove ovarian cysts without ensuring there is no pregnancy. There are just too many things prior to surgery that would be done that would have found a prenancy. JMHO. If this is true, I think the ob/gyn should have their license revoked.

Either way, good luck to your sister and her new baby boy!!! I hope all goes smoothly!

My Godmother told the doctor she was pregnant and was more or less told she was a hysterical menopausal woman so she dismissed her own instincts. For nine months. The menopause will be ten next month! :D

My dh's mother didn't realize she was preg. with dh's youngest half brother until she was 6 months preg. He was born 3 months after our oldest dd. She thought she was going through menopause

I went to college with a girl who didn't know she was pregnant until the day she delivered. She was/is a big, athletic girl, very muscular, and she only gained 10 pounds or so. She just thought she was eating too much. She said in hindsight she did feel the baby kicking, but since she had never been pregnant before she didn't know to associate that feeling with pregnancy. Plus, because she was an athlete, she never got her period anyway, so she didn't think anything about not having it for 9 months.

Oy! That was a surprise, to say the least, to her family. They made the best of it, even though she wasn't married and her SO was not in the picture. The kid is about 12 now.

Best of luck to your sister!

My mother was also told she was in menopause when she was pregnant with my sister. She absolutely insisted that she was pregnant---got that hysterical woman thing again---she said NO she had been through pregnancy twice before and she KNEW what her body was doing--switched doctors--they confirmed the pregnancy at 3 months along--voila, my sister!

She also told the doctor that the pregnancy was MY fault because I had been praying for a baby sister for 11 years. We all knew that the baby would be a girl--long before the days of ultrasound--and, of course, she was!

Just another thread making me glad my dh has had a vasectomy.;)

Good luck to them!

I was thinking the same thing. WOW, what a surprise. :D

I guess its happens but its hard for me to see how. With each boy I was huge. I started showing at 2 months with my first (of course Im short and there is really no where for the baby to hide).
With 2 of 4 I had MS from h*ll. They all moved around like there was a rugby game going on in there.

A friend of my SIL did not know she was pregnant with her first until she went into labor. She was a big girl at the time, so she didn't look pregnant, just like she had gained a bit of weight. Also, she never missed her cycle, and she did not fell the baby move. The Dr. told her that this is actually more common than you would think. There are many people who don't miss their cycle, or who don't feel the baby move much, or who don't really look pregnant, it's just that all of these happened to her. Even with her second, she didn't find out until she was like 5 months along, when she felt the baby move.
