Hi everyone...Hope you can help. I have held tight to my Canon EOS Rebel Ti SLR and my rolls of FujiFilm and dark room hours. But today I needed a picture of my son ASAP, borrowed a friend's Rebel Digitial, ran to Wal-Mart to pick up the prints, and now I want a digital. I have the Rebel as I stated above as well as two zoom lenses, so a digital Canon would be the obvious choice (body only), but what are my options here for a decent price? I don't know much of the lingo other than the higher the mega pixel the better. Do any places take a SLR body as a trade-up for a digital body? Does the software come with body? It's a whole new world for me....
Thanks

More megapixel doesn't always mean better pictures.

Others here can do a better job of explaining why than I. So I will defer to them.

I believe, but I could be wrong, that old canon slr lenses will work with the dslr canons. I'd say I'm 99% sure.

More MP aren't always better as the previous poster said. You should check a site like Steve's Digicams or imaging-resource for reviews and test pictures. Popular Photography is a good magazine to check out for camera reviews as well. (On their site also)

I have a few of the 'older' SLR lenses that work great with my digital Canon, not as quiet as those with USM...but still nice lenses. One of the best ones I own is an old 50mm f/1.8 Mark 1...a very fast lens. So as long as your lenses are designated with EF, they will work with any Canon digital SLR whether your budget it $500 or $9,000.

As far as what to get you need to be comfortable with how the camera fits in your hands, so try a few out. For myself and my DW the Rebel XT was just a little small in our hands. The 20D works well for both of us as well as I like the 5D (no budget for that one).

Canon just announced today the Rebel's replacement which has some very nice additional features over the prior model. However, the prior model (350XT) is another feature packed camera that should start dropping a little in price once the new model starts hitting the streets. Similar to the price drops on the 20D with the release of the 30D.

There are some good sites to research on and compare sample shots taken by the testers.

These are just a few that I like use.

Good advice I recently read,

1. Figure out what you need
2. Figure out what you want.
3. Get the camera that has everything you need, and most if not all of what you want.
4. 1 and 2 are definately not always the same.

As for MP..... I belive that 6mp will make a 16-20 pic with no distortion. If your not planning on making Posters larger than that, the over 6mp can drop into the what you want catagory rather than what you need.

I bought the Rebel XT back in December. I have been very very happy with it. But as a previous poster stated, see if it is comfortable in your hand. I have heard of people that went with the 300D even though it was an older model just because it felt better in their hands.

Remember that whatever you buy, there will be new are better one out in the next year or so, so don't worry about what is coming unless you can't fit your needs above.

To give examples I wanted a 30D, but I didn't need it, and the money I would have spent getting the 30D vs the 350D allowed me to by a couple of lenses.

I just got the rebel XT about a month ago and I love it, sure I don't know how to use it but I look so cool holding it. In all seriousness though the XT is cheap for what you get on www.butterflyphoto.com and check www.buydig.com, and B&H photo, I think the address is www.bhphotovideo.com. However, check canon's and Nikon websites. They both just released new cameras. You're obvious choice with your lenses is the new Canon Rebel XTi but the Nikon D80 with kit lens 18-135 looks pretty nice. Maybe I can take some good shots this weekend at the race and show them off.
