At AK, we wanted my husband to ride EE using the single rider line, & if he thought my 5yo would like it & not be too scared, I would take him on it using a rider switch pass, while my husband watches our 2yo daughter. However we were told we couldn’t get a RS pass using the single rider line.

Has this always been the case or is this just something that’s decided by ffs CM?

We were planning on doing the same tomorrow at Epcot to ride TT, but if it’s not allowed, I’d rather have us wait for Soarin’ or another ride.

I was unable to get one at TT using single rider in November.

Rider Swap is just about THE most "CM's choice" situations at WDW.
Many times the CM who happens to be at the ride entrance when you show up can be the deciding factor.

Yes - I agree just adding my experience to the "poll" - always worth it to ask if you have the non rider present!

Wow this could be a game changer. I have 4 kids 8 and under and only one likes thrill rides and even still hes iffy, which makes it tough planning FP for RnR, TT, EE. We will have to try this strategy and see if it works. We use RS a lot with FP and stuff but i guess i just assumed it wouldnt work with single rider. Thanks for the tip!

I'm confused. How can you take a 5 yo in the single rider line? And exactly what do you need a RS pass for with a single rider line? What piece of the puzzle and I missing?

The OP could take the 5 yo on the ride USING the RS Pass.
(Not using the SR line, but using the RS Pass to bypass the Standby line.)
The RS Pass being obtained by exhibiting the 2 yo to the CM at the ride entrance.

Oh. I'm not sure that would work very often but what do I know. Playing "is the CM in a good mood today, or not"

Right - you can't just jump into the single rider line and ask for a RSP you would have to have the non rider with you (to prove you qualify) and then ask the CM at the entrance for the pass. Since they may or may not have/give them out in single rider line its not going to be quick.

Again - the answer I got was no so imho better to be prepared for no than develop your "touring strategy" based on something that may not be available to you.

eta - the single rider line for RnRc isn't always faster!

I'd venture to guess that the single rider line at RnR is rarely faster and frequently slower.

This! I was doing it once and they had to let a train or two go of all single riders because that holding pen got dangerously full. Last time I put myself through that.

Standing farther back from this...

It would be a very simple matter to go to any of the 3 attractions which offer Single Rider Lines and pick up a Rider Switch Pass at the regular entrance (to the FP line or Standby Line.)
Just walk up to the entrance CM with the 2 yo and get a Rider Switch Pass.

THEN:
Walk away at that point (RS Pass in hand) and any of the adults could head on over to the Single Rider Line and, well, ride.

Since they also have a Rider Switch Pass, they can use it whenever they like to take another ride for up to 3 guests.

Makes perfect sense. I was just not figuring out how Single Rider line was playing in to the entire rider swap picture at all. And really, it does not. Bottom line. Classic case of not seeing the forest for the trees.

Many of the attractions are not giving out the RSP at the entrance due to this very thing - people picking up RSP and not waiting in line to ride.
Last trip we often got a lanyard after showing the non rider to the CM at the entrance. Then just prior to boarding the CM will swap out the lanyard for the RSP thus ensuring you actually ride in order to get a RSP.

This is usually our experience as well.

Is the 5 year old riding alone ??? In the single rider line you have to ride separately and I thought a 5 year old child has to ride with a responsible person over a certain age.

That's not what the OP is asking.
The five year old would not be in the Single Rider Line at all.

The OP would enter the regular line and ride with the 5 yo USING the Rider Switch Pass.
(Again, not using the Single Rider Line... but using the Rider Switch Pass to not have to wait in the Standby line.)
The Rider Switch Pass would be obtained by the parent showing the 2 yo to the CM at the ride entrance.
A parent wanting to get the Rider Switch Pass would then (possibly) need to wait in the standby line or FP line (or single rider line) in order to get the Pass.
