Just my thoughts after my experience this week. I am a single rider for many rides at Disney as my children are small and my Dh gets motion sick. I was upset to learn this trip that most attractions no longer have their single rider lines. The only two which still did were Test track and Everest. Now my experience with those single rider lines was even more frustrating than I thought it would be. Everest was filled with whole families waiting to single ride that just did not feel like waiting in the standby line as it was too long a wait time for them. The same thing was happening at Test track.

I know it is impossible for CM,s to know that these families are together so they let them get in the line but then it clogs up the wait for those true single riders whose other family members are now waiting longer for them to finish. So am I the only one who feels this is cheating the system to use the single rider line when you are not a single rider? I mean I had to prove I had family waiting to get the rider swap card this trip which became a problem more than once when the CM could not see my family through the crowds of ppl waiting outside the attraction. But they felt fine letting whole families through the same line as single riders??

Did they do away with the single rider line on other attractions because of the abuse??? I mean I was told twice at RnR that they no longer had a single rider line and I was the coasters leaving with empty seats instead of them using single riders to fill them. I saw the same thing at Mission Space seats left empty because they have no single rider line anymore.

MS doesn't have a single rider line anymore? I guess because the line is never really long to begin with. I really don't see them doing wrong if they want to ride the ride apart. I personally feel silly going on rides by myself and don't do it very often. Especially if it's a ride I haven't gone on before.... I might be in the minority, but I don't see them doing anything wrong.

MS lost it's single rider line for the whole orange team/green team thing...spinning vs. no spinning. Or, IMO, fun vs. Star Tours II. :teeth:

Is there some kind of rule against families entering a single rider line? I would think that if they don't mind the fact that they won't end up in the same vehicle, that it wouldn't be an issue.

personally, I like the single rider lines too. I am a teenager, with an 8 year old sister and two parents who all hate fast rides, but they don't like waiting for me to go on them and they don't want to leave me behind because disney is HUGE. Don't they still have Fast Pass though? That could lessen wait time a bit, and you can do other things while you wait!

But still, the single riders lines ruled, I can't believe they don't have much of them anymore!

I am a single rider for many Disney rides, as well. However, I do not blame families for walking through the single rider line for any reason. If they perfer to be split up to get on a ride faster, so be it. :confused3 Nor do I feel it should be a rule that they be not allowed to stand in such a line. It is their choice.

Agreed. Although I've never done it, I see nothing wrong with it if it speeds things up with regards to their touring process.

I was in single rider line at Everest last March and had no issues. Many times my teenage chilren and I will get in the single rider line. We don't care if we ride together.

Is there an issue with that?

I guess no it is not an issue unless like me you get stuck behind a party of 15 ppl all going through the single rider line. I stood in the line for 30 minutes and then just gave up and left. There were several other groups in line when I was there. I guess if they are going to be so strict about the rider switch then I think they should be a little stricter with the single rider line and large groups. I know that fastpass is available for ppl to make the wait shorter but when you are the only one who rides it is kind of selfish to fastpass something no one else wants to go on. If I fastpass these attractions they all have to wait for my fastpass time to expire before we can fastpass something else.

Well, large groups attend Disney all the time. Several groups and organizations at my University attend Disney on several occassions. In fact, I went to Epcot with one some time before. Large groups, in my opinion, have the same right as anyone else. :confused3

Not to mention the fact that we are in a peak season at this point. Lines will inevitably be longer this time of year.

Hmmm, interesting. I would never have thought to drag my group into the single rider line. It would just seem rude to me. I suppose there's nothing "wrong" with it, persay... Obviously they aren't breaking any rules...but it sure seems rude to that ONE person who has a family/group waiting for them because they are the ONLY person in the group who wants to (or is able to) ride.

If you've got a group to stand with you, then IMO, you belong in the standby line. If you're the lone wolf who has a family waiting for you to ride the ride, I think you deserve to get through the ride as quickly as possible...

Just seems thoughtful and fair to me... :confused3

Hmmm .... this has the potential to turn in to a popcorn worthy thread.

As notnothin pointed out, it is peak season, so the lines (standby, fastpass and single rider) are going to be longer, so what does it matter if the 15 people in front of you know each other or not? The only difference it would make IMHO is that the line would be a lot friendler/chattier, although at Disney parks even total strangers are more likely to start up conversations in line and be chatting like old friends soon! :teeth:

The purpose of the single rider line is so that when a group does not take up a whole car or row, instead of a seat going empty, they can fill it from the single rider line, thus getting more people through the attraction in less time. It is not a "perk" for single riders to get through faster. Anyone who is willing to ride separate from their party can go through the line, just as a single rider is free to join the other line. "Single" refers to how you are willing to sit in the ride, not who you are waiting in line with.

How does the single rider line work? Why are single riders let on faster? Are they pairing them with say parties of 3 or 5 (in the FP or standby line) to fill the empty seat?

Single riders get a pass at the fastpass area for Everest. they then go throught the line to a point when they become separated from the group and put in a different line. They must then wait for a single seat to be available and not filled with someone from the standby line. You do not get to choose who sit with or where on the ride you sit. They simply fill the seats with those ppl who have no one to ride with.

I am glad to hear I am not they only one who thinks it is rude to take a large group through the single rider line. I guess I felt that it should be a way for those true single riders to get through and back to their parties a little quicker.

Just a tip for rides that do not have a single rider line, as you are approaching the area where the CM's loading the ride can see you, don't hesitate to hold up a finger to indicate one rider. If there is a convenient spot they will often pull you out of the line to fill a slot. I've done this at SE, BTMRR, Splash, RRC, Dinosaur, and Kali several times and shaved off some time.

Pafer I think that you are confused about what single rider means. It does not mean that you must be alone in the park or that you cannot wait with other people in your party. It does mean that you will be separated and you will fill in the empty seats after parties riding together are seated. If anyone does not mind riding with strangers rather than thier party it is thier choice and I do not understand why that would upset anyone. If people are getting into single rider then demanding to b e seated together you have a problem but that is not what it sounds like you are complaining about. I actually think the lines would be shorter if they had it on more rides. I cannot tell you how many carts on Splash,Space and BTM had empty seats that could have been filled if there were single riders.

No I am not confused about what a single rider line is at all. I am aware that the system is set up to fill unused seats one at a time. I do however think it is discourteous to use it as a group just to bypass the long standby line. I do not think that was why it was implemented in the first place.
