So as a family with young kids, we never took advantage of single rider before, but now that they are getting older, we gave it a try, and what a glorious advantage it is.

Each time we rode as a family first, then did single rider, so we experienced both.

At HS for MFSR two days this week we waited <5 min in single rider each time (posted wait was about 45 and we waited about 30 each time just prior to riding single rider)

For EP, even better advantage. We were at the front of RD at international gateway at 10:15, but the crowd from the front beat us and we didn’t get on the ride till 11:35 (held at Canada for some time so it might have been about a 60 min wait from when we were release). Posted 110 wait at some point while in line. We waited 5 min in single rider a bit later (posted wait was 60 min then I think).

So if you don’t mind your party split up, then it saves a ton of time to do single rider.

Btw. Each time on every ride, my son and DH ended up in the same car (ship). There are 4 of us, so if they called one single rider me or my daughter would go. But if they called for 2, then DH would take our youngest. But we fully prepared him to be riding alone if they called one rider each time. And my kids were so happy with the short waits that they didn’t mind splitting up. But I still like riding together as a family the first time, and using single rider for re-rides.

Single rider is awesome!

The single rider line is for.......SINGLE riders. Parties of one. It's not for greedy families to split up and abuse just so they can get through the line faster.

What? I don’t understand your post. We are single riders. 4 single riders walking into the line at the same time. Are you trying to tell me there is something wrong with what I did? You called it abuse and I just don’t understand that at all.

You did nothing wrong. The only way it would be abuse is if you got to the front of the line and demanded your family not be split up. Which you did not do.

Don't worry about it. Single rider line only fills seats that would otherwise be empty so you did nothing wrong. It doesn't affect the standby line at all. Someone might be jealous ;)

I agree. If my family of 6 chooses to ride single rider- we are 6 single riders. Exactly what the line is intended for. Sometimes they need 2 to fill a car, so OP was saying that is when her DH and son would go, otherwise they were perfectly happy to ride one at a time. Absolutely nothing abusive about that at all. It is not a disadvantage to anyone. Or greedy.

As a single rider I actually get really annoyed when there are large parties using it as a way to have a short wait. I have only ever actually used the lines when I go on solo trips, not when I'm with my family or on trips with the kids alone, that's not what it's for. Also, there are rules about how young a kid can be to ride without a parent, so I surely hope your kid met those guidelines. Single rider IS awesome, but really, for single riders.

but there are probably other actual single riders who had to wait longer because larger groups were using it to have a shorter wait. It happens all the time at EE, pre-covid anyway, sometimes the single rider line would be almost as long as the regular line because so many families would jump in that to avoid the line. You are at the mercy of the size of the groups in the regular line, and if a lot of families/larger groups hop in the single rider line and there happen to be a lot of groups that don't allow for a lot of single riders to be needed then that line doesn't move...and then it gets looooooong.

What is stopping someone on a solo trip from getting in the regular line? Why should you expect a shorter wait only because you are on a solo trip? Disney has not posted rules that the single rider line is only for solo travelers. There is nothing unethical about anyone who is willing to ride as a single rider to use that line.

I fail to see the difference between a solo traveler and a group in the single rider line, as long as everyone in the line has no expectation that they will ride with anyone they know. Everyone in the SR line is agreeing to forfeit their right to ride with their pals/family (and get that adorable group ride photo) in order to fill empty seats and keep the line moving. 乁( ⁰͡ Ĺ̯ ⁰͡ ) ㄏ

I see what you're saying, but also- it is completely random who would be in any line at any given time. I could take my family of 6 (and by the way, we haven't done this as my youngest is 7 and not ready to ride alone, but my older kids have done single rider while we waited)- anyway- if I chose to stagger my family of 6 by 1 minute and we each enter 1 minute apart, you (or anyone) in line would have no clue if we were a "larger group" or not. We are just people randomly in a line, same as if we all entered at the same time. Single rider is for anyone to ride on the ride in an empty seat, to fill available space. Not only for people that are touring the parks alone. I honestly had no idea that people had a problem with this.

Let's assume for a moment that the SR line is meant to be a perk for "single riders" rather than a mechanic to quickly fill empty ride seats and increase throughput.

Who is the intended recipient of this perk? (The true "single rider" for whom this blessing is intended.) Only solo travellers? How about party members that happen to be broken away from their group temporarily for whatever reason? (Ex. My family is going back to the hotel room, but I want to stay in the park a little longer.) How about if a brother and sister (old enough to ride on their own - let's say teenagers) want to ride a "cool" ride that mom and dad are too lame to ride. Do they qualify, assuming they're fine with being split up at the end of the line? Is the situation different if they arrive at the SR line together, versus five minutes apart? What if I'm a solo traveler, but I have a friend that's local to the Orlando area and they spontaneously meet me at Epcot for the day? What if I'm technically not "single" due to my dating/marital status? DO I PERMANENTLY LOSE MY SR LINE PRIVILEGES BY TYING THE KNOT?!?! ヽ((◎д◎))ゝ

The gravity of entering a relationship has just increased tenfold!!!

I‘ve visited Disney parks as a solo traveler several times, and used to work in one. The single rider line is to minimize the number of empty seats that would‘ve otherwise gone out wasted. It also helps the attraction’s groupers and loaders work more smoothly.

Before single rider lines, more seats would go wasted, or whenever cast members got an odd number of people, would have to tetris together another odd sized party. Some guests would inevitably line up incorrectly (one person in row 1, two in row 2) and the CM would have to stop and go ask them to reconfigure themselves. Now, it’s easier just to immediately fill that single seat.

It is not intended as a special benefit only for solo visitors, and to the park, it does not matter who benefits from it as long as someone does. In fact, there’s usually a sign or card that says “parties will be separated”.

Now, as a solo traveller, was I low-key disappointed when I walked into the Expedition Everest single rider queue, only to find that a cheerleader coach had just walked in a party of 30 squealing teens in front of me? Well yes, but I also realized that there’s nothing about my party size that makes me more entitled to a shorter wait than anybody else (as long as they’re willing to abide by the ’parties will be separated‘ rule). Thankfully, I walked away for a snack (when you’re solo you can outrun and outflex anyone), and when I came back they had all been served.

Single rider line is not meant as a perk for solo travelers. It’s there for efficiency, the goal is to get more people thru the ride without wasting potential.

I realize it can be debated whether a party of 14 should take advantage of single rider but if they truly are willing to all split up they have just as much right as anyone to use ride queues as they see fit and are allowed.
