Single parent watching show alone on first night?

I'm a single mom and cruised with my two boys (6 and 9) alone for two weeks last month. I was so worried that I'd end up just sitting in the room by myself, but that turned out to be a silly concern. I was kept busy, even though my kids did end up wanting to spend a lot of time in the clubs. I met lots of people through my cruise group and found just the right balance of family time and "me" time. I wouldn't worry about the little ones needing to be in the club the first night. They are at an age where they just go up to someone and announce that they are friends. They will be fine.

That is what I am wanting as well, to make sure we are doing the dinner and show together. I might find out they don't want to be in the kids club at all, or maybe not a lot, and that is fine too! That is a great idea about highlighting what you are doing for you son. I made a mental note of that for when mine are older, as I am really hoping we like this cruise and go on many more! :o

I'm sure you and your kids will love the cruise vacation. Once you get on board and you've gotten comfortable and so have the kids... you'll see this is a great thing for single parents. You get to do fun things together and experience new things but still get to have some alone time with no fear that your kids are fine where they are. The best thing. You'll love it.

I'm not a single mom, but I wanted to give another perspective. My kids have seen exactly one show with us in 6 cruises. I think it was on our first cruise. After that, they decided they would much rather be in the clubs. I decided I'd also much rather be anywhere else (like, say, alone for once in our room! Or reading in Quiet Cove). So my husband goes to the shows alone and he's perfectly happy. We all have a great time and no one feels left out or obligated to do anything. We also sometimes send the kids to the clubs for dinner because they love that experience. And then my husband and I can do whatever WE want :) That's why I love cruising! So, feel free to do what you want and let your kids do what they want and you'll have SO much fun!

Lots of great advice from everyone!! I am open to whatever my kids want to do! Hoping they like the kids club at least a little so I can have some "me" time, but I am sure we will all have a great time! :thumbsup2
