Single Parent Advice Needed!!

Firstly, apologies if I've put this on the wrong board, wasn't quite sure which one to pick!!

In '99 I took my 2 kids to WDW on my own when DH had urgent business and couldn't join us at the last moment. Then this year we went again and he had to leave after a week to again fly home due to business.

I (and the kids!) would dearly love to go again next year, but just booking me and the kids.

Seems strange to ask as I've already been twice (sort of!) on my own but it does concern me always doing these trips just me and the kids and I certainly do miss out on a bit of adult company at times.

So, the question is, does anyone do the same with their kids and have you any good advice for me? Hope you can help!!

Unfortunately I don't have any great advice to give you, but I'm interested in what kind of responses you get as I will be going alone with my 3 year old DD for the first time in September.

I am a single parent. And we went to DL in December just the three of us (me and my two girls). We had the best time, better then when we went with my mom or my Best Friend. It was so nice knowing that I only had to worry about US not someone elses needs, wants, desires. What kind of advice are you looking for??

Now there's a question that's got me thinking!!

I suppose any advice at all!! A lot of people over here (Britain) think it's odd that I'd even contemplate doing such a trip on my own, especially as I've already done it twice (why do you want to go back there again Astrid, won't you be bored?!!!!).

I think you're right WDW2002, the great thing is you only have yourself to think about, I suppose if I'm honest with myself, it's the whole 'single parent' stigma that is relatively new to me, and I'm just looking for some reassurance that there are others out there who are just like me!!

Don't know whether that's answered your question or will get me anymore replies!!

Well first off, I wouldn't worry about any "stigma" about going just you and your kids. Second off I have haven't had any troubles with just going myself and my girls. Since you have done this already (even if unplanned) you pretty much know the routine of the rides etc. My only tip on going with only one adult is to sit in back of your kids if you can't or don't want to sit in the same seat. I can not stand having my kids in back of me, makes me nervous that I can't "see" them. Just go and have fun.

Please don't feel there's anything wrong with going as a single parent. I've brought my DD 4 times to WDW. We have a blast everytime, although I have to admit, it was a little rough when she was only 3 1/2. She's now 10 and we're going the first week of December to experience the Holiday effect. I absolutely cannot wait! We do the rides together, have dinner in restaurants together, and will now cruise together. The only downfall is DCL will charge her as an adult since it's only the two of us in the cabin.

MVMCP will kick off our 10 day trip. 109 days and counting....

Unfortunetly at age 10 she will also be an "adult" when it comes to park passes too. My oldest is now 10 and I have buy her an adult hopper. Kids grow up fast enough why does Disney have to make them adults at age 10??

I'm planning for my son (12) & I to go in May. I've been saving for years but there's always been SOMETHING that takes the money away; ie. car problems, new tires, BRACES, etc., FINALLY, said the heck w/it we're going (before he doesn't want to be seen w/me anymore), not to mention, I'm not getting any younger. Go on & have a blast - you'll be on a wonderful vacation & the memories you'll have with you and your children will last forever and will be something you all can talk about for a long time to come. Enjoy yourselves. I feel very fortunate that I can finally afford to take this young lad to a place that I always enjoyed many moons ago. Take care Jane.
