My dd11 needs a new bed. Should I buy a single or double bed?

Single: would leave more floor more space in small bedroom
Double: The size she currently has

My DH is leaning towards a single, but I am not convinced.

Also: We have a couple of futons downstairs that we use for sleepovers.

Looking for suggestions/advice.
Thanks!

Your daughter is 11. Ask her what she wants.

I'm kind of new but hope you don't mind if I answer.
I'd go double and count on losing a futon when she leaves for college then getting the futon back and taking the double when she leaves the dorm for an apartment. I have seen more furniture come and go with 4 kids. I just got it all back and now I don't want it!

I had a single (twin) until I got married. We got DD one as well due to the space limitations in her room (10x13) when we moved and she had a much larger room, we bought her a new mattress but she still wanted a twin so she would have room for a sitting area with a chair.

Since she already has a single, a double will require new bedding. This could be good or bad depending on whether you want a reason to redecorate her room. ;)

I voted for double - my 11 year old is in a twin and I wish we had gone for a full instead.

If there is room, I would go with a double. My 17 YO DD has a queen & my two youngest have twins and they both want bigger beds. When we move again & they have more room, we are going with doubles. :thumbsup2

My vote is for a twin. You said she has a small room so the twin makes the most sense to me.

As far as a teen needing space to spread out I had to comment. Men and women that serve in the military that live in dormitories have twin beds to sleep in. Sorry I couldn't help but comment on that post.

I voted for single. Gives her more room in her room... and bed and bedding is cheaper. If her room is already on the small side, then having more room there is a plus.

I grew up with a double... didn't have a single till I went to college and lived in a dorm and really, never once thought ah, this is too small! It was just fine. Never once missed my double bed.

I know the reason we had doubles as a kid was mom thought it's bigger and would be less likely to fall out of it at night compared to a single... not to forget the stupid bed rails she kept on our beds till we were like 8 or so! ugh!

I vote for double - she already has one so there's room for it, she is used to it plus you already have bedding.

I vote for twin. She needs the space and when I went off to college we didn't have a choice. . only XL twins in the dorms. Unless she is 6'4" or unusually round, I think a twin is fine.

I vote double. At 11 and as a girl they are getting ready to be spending most of their time in the bathroom primping anyway and don't need the space for toys. We got my son a double last summer in preperation for him to move out one day. He doesn't miss the space at all. By the time they are teenagers they don't have a heck of a lot of stuff, or at least mine don't.

This!!!
Why would you want a single bed in your house anyway, they are worthless for guests and teens. My 12yo chose a queen. I thought he made an excellent choice.

What about a twin with a pop up trundle? Then you get the best of both worlds.

My DD is almost 13 and has a twin. Mainly due to space issues. She fits fine in it so I don't see it as a problem. I will however be looking for one with a trundle soon because when she has friends sleep over they insist on sleeping in the same bed. Two teens in a twin just is not working, lol.

Do you regulary have sleepover guests? How old?

We live out of state from both sets of parents (60's). The blowup bed/couch/futon idea just isn't going to cut it much longer for when they come to visit.

For this reason we upgraded DD10's bed to a queen. When grandparents come to visit, they sleep in her bed and she picks the couch/blowup mattress...

Just another persprecive if it applies to you...
