Went to the store today and DD threw up. Embarassing to say the least. Came directly home. Thankfully we only lived around the corner. Gave her a shower and everything and came to find out no Sprite or the such. Called my friends to see if they could run to the store for me and noone was home. At the last resort called DD's father to see. I think I lost my mind for a minute to think that he would lift his finger to help out for just something like this. So to say the least I had some few choice words for him after I hung up the phone that I can't say here. Talked to my brother who lives in DC and he came up with the suggestion to order a pizza and get a soda with it. Now why didn't I think of that. THis way I don't have to worry about cooking myself dinner. He does this b/c he's too lazy to go buy soda. To have money! So what do you do when your stuck and can't get out to get meds or the such?

I'm not a single mom, but I once was so sick one evening when my DH worked second shift and DSs were toddlers, I couldn't get up off the couch to make them dinner. A friend happened to call and I begged her to please pick up McDonald's for my DSs and bring it over. I didn't have any family living near me at the time, either. After that experience when my DSs were toddlers and I didn't have anything easy to make for them for dinner, I always kept a couple of cans of Spaghettio's in the cabinet, for an "emergency" like that.

It's so hard to try and anticipate things like this, but maybe you could keep a bottle of gingerale or Sprite or 7-Up in your pantry or fridge, just in case this happens again.

I'm so sorry your DD is sick today :( I hope she's feeling a little better this evening.

I can feel your pain w/ dd's father! Some men (please note I said "some") think that if they aren't in their care then they are not responsible! I am a single parent but lucky enough to have my parents help. My mom is gone now but helped me tremendously while she was here! And my dad would help us out in a heart beat! As well as my sister! I hope your little angel feels better real soon!!

Sorry your little darling is sick, Suzanne! :( I hope she's feeling better soon. I usually try to keep the OTC meds here "just in case." If it's a script from the doctor, I go from his office directly to the pharmacy with ds.

You may want to keep some Gatorade on hand. Our ped recommended it because it's made almost just like Pedialyte (except it has more sugar) and it has a longer shelf life.

Our ped always recommended water anyway
unless stomach virus lasted more than 2 days. AND she specifically recommended against Gatorade or other sports
drinks because of salt content being to high for little ones already
dehydrated. Sorry your DD is sick. Also, most kids will eat ice
chips for a while when they are sick; it's a novelty.

Wow, I thought my ex could be a pain in the butt, but he does come through most of the time when our son is sick. good luck to you and your daughter. I hope she feels better.

Last winter we had the stomach bug go through here and now we keep gingerale on the shelf permananetly for just such occasssions. i also keep the meds on hand for just in case times.

My son did that once but it was in my car. ugh! Stopped at db and dsil to clean it up! I know the feeling of being alone when that happens!

Hope all feel better soon!

DD is feeling much much better today. I usually have Sprite in the house since that's the only soda she's allowed to drink on limited occassions, but I didn't realize that we were out. I just couldn't believe that he did this after my lawyer had a little talk with him Friday in mediation. That lasted a couple of hours before he went back to his old ways. I just know now not to call him for anything. Ya live and ya learn.

So glad she's feeling better, Suzanne! :teeth: Unfortunately, you're probably better off thinking of him as not even being around. Might save you some aggravation. I know how hard it is to do EVERYTHING alone. :(

I'm glad she's feeling better.

And I'll take this as a reminder to make sure I have things like that, just in case.

My brother used to laugh at when when I kept a container of Gatorade crystals in my cupboard. Then he got sick and realized why I kept them handy ... when you're sick, you're sick and you can't get up (or out) to get it. Keeping a container of crystals in the cupboard has saved me many times!

I just make do with what I have...and I typically give her water or ginger tea with an upset stomach. She's not much of a soda drinker to begin with so it would be hard to get her to drink it even under the best of circumstances.

If it's prescription meds...I'll bundle her up and take her with me to get them if I can't find someone to watch her. I've only had to do that once. Otherwise, I hang tight and make do until I can get out.

Glad to hear your DD is feeling better.

I'm glad she's doing better, too, Suzanne.

take it from one who's been there for 10 years, if I don't expect anything from him, then I'm never disappointed.... ....
