DH is a big golfer (and former Golf Course Superintendent) so I know he'd really enjoy a game at one of the courses during our October trip. However, I don't play and I don't want to pay just to ride along, so will they hook him up with a partner or 3-some for the afternoon?

Is there a particular course that's most impressive?

Thanks!

Im in the same boat next week.
I called and booked a tee time and its just me.
Guess they gonna pair me up with some other folks.
I hope they choose wisely.

Palm/Osprey Ridge/Lake Buena Vista all are home to the PGA tour event in the fall, the Funai Classic. You might want to check the dates of the tournement. It might be occuring while you are there.

Palms has the famous Mickey Bunker on a Par 3.
Most of the courses are very impressive.
Im playing Palm and Osprey Ridge. I might end up playing the 9 hole course Oak Trail.

Right now they have a 2 round package for 199.00.

Ill let you know in a couple of weeks how they are.

Eagle and osprey are the newest and most difficult.

Lake Buena Vista is not as hyped, but it is my favorite because it snakes through the old kew west and old disney institue, plus it is a little easier.

magnolia and palms are cool since they have held a PGA tour event since 1972. At any moment your ball could land in tiger woods lie. Since the funai is in october, you will be playing mag and palm at their highest state of play...the greens will be extremely fast. In oct and nov mag and palm will play harder than eagle and osprey.

Hope that helps.

Oh thank you! Just PM me when you get back...I'm eager to hear how it turns out.

Anyone going the week of Oct 4? I've got a week planned, and my dad would rather golf than go to the parks with us (dd 8) lol!! :wizard:

I think it is the magnolia course that has the Mickey ears bunker #6

You are right....My Bad...

Damn...I gotta change my round then....I want to play that one.

The practice followed by all the courses is to fill tee time slots with 4 people when possible until about noon. Thus, if you call and make a tee time in the morning as a single, it is highly likely you will end up with at least two and probably 3 other players (often other singles who have called in). In the afternoon, they will do the same if demand is there, but often between noon and two or three, they get few players until twilight rates begin at 2 or 3 (time depends on time of year). Usually getting hooked up is a good thing (other players are nice to get to know), on a rare occassion it is not (one of the players is a foul-mouthed club thrower).

Most impressive course by far is Osprey Ridge (it is also the most expensive), lots of memorable holes and two of the best finishing holes you will ever see. If he is only going to play once that would be the lead choice. The Lake Buena Vista course is not used for the PGA event which takes place close to the end of October (they stopped using that one ten years ago and now use only the Palm and Magnolia, and only the Magnolia on Saturday and Sunday of the tournament). The Magnolia is very popular because it is the most known. Osprey and the Palm are the most difficult, Lake Buena Vista the easiest (none is overly difficult or easy), Magnolia the longest with widest fairways, and Eagle Pines is the shortest with lots of disaster-waiting around the greens. All courses are kept in excellent shape and are fun to play.

When we go DH always plays at least once or twice, and they have hooked him up with a 3-some. He seems to enjoy playing with, and meeting new people. He has played since he was a boy, and there is NOTHING (and I do mean nothing although he disagrees ;)) he would rather be doing than playing golf.

Last year I had a tee time at Osprey Ridge as a single and they paired me up with two other singles. We had a great time. This is the best course on Disney property in my opinion. We also played Magnolia but Osprey was excellent. Both of the guys I was paired with were from different countries. Is was a great experience to meet them and play golf. My family even met his later in the week for lunch. You are not going to pick a wrong course in Disney, He will be impressed with all of them. Good luck.

Ospery Ridge is, IMHO, the best of the courses at Disney. It was built on a great piece of land which allows for plenty of interesting holes.

Magnolia and Palm are the oldest course. Both are good tests of golf, but tend to be flater then Ospery.

Eagle Pines is fun but I found it a little too short.

Haven't played LBV.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Not sure about ride alongs...Many course don't let non-players ride along due to insurance concerns. Not sure if Disney does it or not. Call ahead.

BTW...I really enjoyed your trip reports and look forward to the next set from your upcoming trip.

Almost all courses will try to pair up into a foursome for continuity purposes.

the Magnolia is tough and I'd recommend it or Osprey Ridge if he is a serious golfer. If he'd rather "hack the course", try Lake Buena Vista...it's easier.

My Dh plays 2X on every trip and is always a single as I do not play. They always hook him up with a 2 or 3some and he has met some really nice people.

By far, his favorite course is Osprey Ridge - cause it's the hardest. He is an avid golfer so he really enjoys a challenging course.

Like others here, "the most impressive" is how DH describes Osprey Ridge too. He golfs as a single all the time, and he always gets paired up with others. I'm so glad to see someome else here who really likes LBV. That's DH's second favorite course (after OR), and since it's so much less expensive, he considers it a "best buy".

hubby plays 3 or 4 times when we go. He loves the palms and always looks forward to playing with other people.
