Single for Afternoon Tea at GF.....is it stupid to do alone?

Definitely go - it is so relaxing! It's been a few years but the scones and cream are fabulous and we also had a delicious lemon pound cake!:cloud9:

Oops - didn't read through the whole thread - I'm lazy that way! But I see you couldn't get an ADR. DH and I walked up when we went. You might try it as a last ditch effort if you can't get a cancellation. I would try it right at the opening time. Hope you get in!:)

OK, well I tried to take everyone's advise and go for it......I just got off the phone with Disney Dining and the ENTIRE week that we're there is booked SOLID.....:sad2:

So, guess I am "officially" on a quest for a cancellation !!!! :rolleyes1

Wish me luck !!!! popcorn::

I read somewhere that they only do ADRs for a certain number of parties, then leave the rest open for walk ups. BUT, don't hold my feet to the fire on that. ;) It looks like we are going at the same time and I know I had alot of trouble getting an ADR for 2. I was unpleasantly surprised.

1) I would do Afternoon Tea as a solo.

2) I travel A LOT for business and often dine as a single.
3) However, I always tell the Maitre d' to look for another single.
4) I have been paired with some mighty interesting people.
5) As the hostess at GF Tea if there are other singles.
6) It will be a good Tea, and if there is another, even a great Tea.

I've done it twice...the first time as a solo and the second time with my Mom & Niece.

And yes if you can't get a reservation you can go as a walk up. The first time I didn't know and came late-ish (like 2:30) but still got a seating. The second time we came early (about 10 minutes before it opened) and got a seating about 30 minutes later after they let the reservations go for the early no-shows and seated the walk-up Grand Floridian guests.

So its possible BUT you have to factor in the holiday season as well. People do go specifically to the GF to see the gingerbread house and to buy gingerbread houses. Unless your parents don't want to go at all they don't have to be big eaters to go there. In fact I wouldn't use it as subsitute for lunch because it isn't.

I'm doing a solo trip in three weeks for three nights, and the main purpose of the trip is to go to all the deluxe resorts and the parks to see the Christmas decorations, so the GF is way high on my list and I decided to do the tea and didn't think twice about it. In fact, I think it will be the perfect afternoon relaxation.

I would give it a try once you are there. If you can't get in, at least you've gone to the GF and seen their decorations.

Good luck getting that ADR. I've had tea solo at the GF twice. It's great. A really nice break in the middle of a park day.

I saw many ladies reading books and enjoying tea solo at the Grand Floridian. I actually thought to myself, next time I'm going to do that!!

I have to say having tea at the Grand Floridian is a very magical moment. Enjoy it!!

Definitely do this, it is so much fun. If you feel self concious as suggested bring a book or magizine. The trifle is fabulous.

I'm traveling with my son, daughter and husband. I am so looking foward to sending them off to MK one afternoon and hanging back ALONE to enjoy tea. They would not appreciate it, and I know after 10 days in a small hotel room together I'll want some alone time ;) .
It didn't even cross my mind to try to make reservations for this, for some reason I assumed it wouldn't be too crowded. I hope you get your walk up, apirateslive4evr, wish me luck as well!
