I really have always wanted to do the Afternoon Tea at the GF, but have always been sidetracked with other activities. Since this is probably my last DISNEY trip for a while, I had hoped to do it in December, figuring that with the holiday decorations and all, it would be really special.

Here's the deal.......neither of my parents really want to do this :sad2: I really had thought that my mom would think it was cool, but she's not a big eater, and the day we can do it, we are doing the KTTK tour, so she'll have eaten a decent lunch that day, and won't be hungry.

Would it be TOTALLY odd and inappropriate for me to do this solo?

Absolutely not. It's never stupid to do things on your own. If it was, my brother-in-law would never do anything but sit in his house all weekend long. I've made many solo Disney trips and dined in many restaurants on my own. At first, you may feel a little 'weird" but I always think that it's what *I* want to do and I don't know these people, they don't know me and my situation and I'll never see them again. Why deny yourself something you want to do just because Mrs. Mary Average at the next table might think something about you? That's her problem, not yours.

I would do it in a heartbeat. Very relaxing and I think you would feel less strange about being alone at the tea than in a dinner situation.:thumbsup2

Have fun, Deb

I agree with the others - there's nothing wrong with having tea by yourself. We saw a couple of different people doing just that when we had afternoon tea last month.

It's a lovely, relaxing thing to do in the middle of the day - I say you should go for it! :thumbsup2

I don't think it would be stupid at all. I've had afternoon tea by myself and I've seen other people do it, too. Just bring your favorite book to read and relax while sipping your tea. :coffee: It's a nice way to get away from it all and have some time to yourself. Have fun! :flower1:

Please go. As my daughter always tells me, if you don't do it, you'll regret it forever. Have a great time! :)

I love going to the tea by myself. I have taken several solo trips and I would not deprive myself of the afternoon tea just because I was alone.
I either take a book to read or I take my note book with me so I can update my trip notes.
The wait staff always treats me great and I have never felt out of place.
Go and enjoy!

Absolutelynot! Tea is lovely and a nice time to enjoy a little solitude, IMO.

I do bring a book with me when I dine alone. Sometimes I rea, sometimes I don't but nice to have

It's never stupid, odd, or inappropriate to visit an eating venue on your own (and if anybody in the restaurant says anything, shame on them). It's up to the individual regarding how comfortable or uncomfortable they'd be in such a situation.

hey, you will probably never see any of those people again anyway. Go in there, have some tea and tasty scones, don't concentrate on the people.

You might get some strange looks as a solo diner if you stick your face in the Devonshire cream and then run around the Garden View Lounge screaming, "I've got rabies! I've got rabies!"

But a solo just sitting there sipping tea and munching on crustless sandwiches and pastries? Nah, nothing odd or unusual about that. Enjoy!

Improv Gal - you made my day! I'm tempted to go there alone & do exactly what you said. Of course, the men with the white jackets would be waiting to take me away & I'd miss the rest of my trip.
I'm planning on doing a solo trip in the future & will be looking forward to trying some things alone. Go for it & have fun!

Please go! They will really take care of you, and I think it will be a nice break for you away from the regular activities at WDW!

You've done that before, haven't you?

But you would also get the same strange looks if you were not a solo. Although the others in your group would probably have even stranger looks on their faces.

I've eaten there solo. It's not only OK, it's actually one of the best places to eat solo! And you can eat as much or as little as you want. You can just get tea (the beverage) if that's all you want!

OK, well I tried to take everyone's advise and go for it......I just got off the phone with Disney Dining and the ENTIRE week that we're there is booked SOLID.....:sad2:

So, guess I am "officially" on a quest for a cancellation !!!! :rolleyes1

Wish me luck !!!! popcorn::

pixiedust: pixiedust: Here's some pixie dust for you. Keep calling, and also try calling on the day you're there..cancellations will and do happen.
DD and ate found several ADR's same day our last trip in.

I travel all over the world and having tea is such a part of so many other cultures. It is one of my favorite travel activities whether other join me or not. I also love to stop into fancy hotel bars and sip a glass of champagne. My favorite activity to do while having tea is writing in my travel journal. It gives me a moment to recall all the little details of my trip. If you aren't a journal person consider writing out post cards while sipping tea. Sometimes I intentionally leave a tea cup mark on the post card for fun.

Don't worry what other people are thinking. Enjoy the atmosphere around you, listen to the sounds, soak up the details around you. Relax!

Do it! You'll love it! I love to dine alone. If my family didn't want to do the tea and I did, I'd totally ditch them and do it!
