If I have a one park ticket for a specific date will the system use that ticket instead of a hopper day on that specific date?

It will IF the OTHER (the Hopper, in this case) ticket has a specific DIFFERENT date assigned.

If the Hopper is NOT "date-specific," then YOU need to stop by any Guest Relations or ticket booth BEFORE you go to the park gate and have your tickets' priority set to use the one you intend to use.

The other ticket does not have dates assigned, but the first day will be used day prior to the day I want to use the single day ticket.

I was hoping I could do this without stopping at Guest Services at the park. Can they help at the hotel?

In this case, you absolutely SHOULD stop by Guest Relations for setting the priorities.

OH boy a topic I can weigh in on. This happened on last trip, April 2021. My husband had a single dated ticket, and 3 undated one day tickets. Day 1-3 of trip went smoothly. Day 4? No valid ticket you say? How can that be??? Well, on day one, the single day that dated ticket ws valid, it pulled one of the undated tickets. It took guest services awhile to fix this. On the same trip, my son had a dated 4 day hopper, and a single old one day left on a non-expire pass from a long time ago. Again, it took that undated ticket first, then 3 days off the 4 day pass. Again, we had guest services put back a one day ticket, I called after we got back and I noticed he was short a ticket. That one day left on the 4 day was of course expiring. (I wasn't sure they could even help with this one, but they did!)

Lesson learned is to make sure they prioritize the tickets. It is annoying we cannot do this, and we cannot even check it ourselves. I often have various tickets on our names (retired CM). I now try to move those to a fake name on MDE so they don't get pulled by mistake, but that would not have helped what happened with DH. I still question why it did not pull that dated ticket, that was only valid that one particular day and use it? Ugh.

I had to do this and will again next week. It was pretty painless.

You can get this done at any ticket window in addition to guest relations. Just let them know you need to set the priority of the tickets on your account.

Us, too. We had 9-day park hoppers from a Covid canceled trip which were good until 9/2021, then bought 7 day base tickets (park hopping was not available) with a resort package last October. Of course on day 1 it used the park hopper ticket instead of the dated package ticket. Guest relations gave us 1 day comp tickets, but couldn't make them hoppers at the time because they weren't selling them. They also correctly prioritized the tickets to use the dated ones from the resort package.

We had another trip in May where we wanted to use the comp tickets and the rest of the 9-day hopper. I called ahead of time and they did almost everything for me - made the comp ticket a hopper, dated it for day 1 of our trip (but didn't prioritize it, as I found at the front desk, luckily before entering a park). My sister didn't call ahead, but tried to get it settled at the front desk when we checked in. They we SO CONFUSED. Apparently the initial guest relations people set the tickets to expire in December 2020, so that had to be fixed. Then the guy dated it wrong by a year, which we didn't notice until after we entered a park that day. So we had to go to guest relations AGAIN. Then on our last day we discovered that they never made it a park hopper, so one day it had used the comp ticket AND one day of the park hopper and she now no longer had a ticket for our last park day. So back to guest relations AGAIN.

It was completely insane and ridiculous that things were this difficult. You should be able to prioritize your own tickets.

OP here, thanks everyone! Since I don't expect park reservations to be a problem in mid-January I will leave the single day tickets in my main MDE then re-assign to everyone once we use the comp tickets. (I'm using a 2nd MDE for my tickets since I still have non-expiring hoppers in my main account)

Other folks have recommended creating a dummy person in your MDE and assigning the tickets you don't want to use to that person. Then they won't accidently be used for your trip. Worked for me when I had military tickets and regular PHP 9 day tickets a month ago. Now that the trip is over I moved the military tickets back to the original people. Downside is you can't make park reservations for the dummy person (you can, but you can't move the ticket with an open reservation and the park reservation won't move with reassigning the ticket).
