Tell me has anyone taken the 7 day cruise solo? I will travel with my son, but my hope is that he will be so busy with his own activities that i can have moments (lots of them) to myself. If you have had that experience I would love to hear about it....Thanks!:D

I have taken 8 cruises (non-Disney), 6 were solo.

All ships have so many various activities that you will never be lacking things to do. During the mornings and afternoons you can enjoy everything from spa treatments, exercise classes (nothing like an aerobics class on deck), pool games, bingo tournaments, shore tours, etc. At night there are shows, casinos, discos ... whatever you want.

I'd highly recommend a spa day. Book your appointment early and enjoy.

6 cruises solo1 WOW! I haved cruised before, but never as a single adult. Thanks for the tips on activities and spa. I will check that out. Guess I was concerned about feeling let out... Weird huh? An August cruise give me a good deal of time to plan out my activities... Thanks again:D

Hi Bill,
How old is your son? The reason I'm asking is that depending on the age they may or may not be so busy with their own activities. Although DCL has a lot going on, I found that some of the kids weren't interested in doing most of the activities and wanted to just hang out. On the other had, my then 12 yr old dd took off with her friends most of the time. My (now) ex was with his boys a large chunck of time so I had a lot of solo time.

I also did the spa thing a lot (the rain room or whatever they called it was pretty nice after a treatment), took some of the classes (the cooking series, some of the navigational), the adult pool is GREAT place to read a book and relax, I liked drinking port at night up by the pool.

My son is 14. and pretty mature. (except for the not listening to me anymore thing) He makes friends fairly easily and is an all around good guy. I trust him (in spite of the not listening to me anymore thing) I suspect that he will find plenty to do. I usually bring along a buddy of his when we visit WDW, but this time he wanted to spend time with me (Yeah, but will he listen to anything I have to say).

So I want to plan out some activities for ME just in case he gets caught up in the whole peer group thing...

You know the thought just occurred to me that maybe, just maybe he want me to listen to him!

Hmmmm something to think about.

Being a single dad I am always looking for ways to feed the ever increasing number of troups that are starting to show up around the house. So the cooking and prep thing really sound like a must do. I don't drink, but I might start. Could be fun to tie one on with Mickey!

I have been reading up on the spa treatments. I never have been into that, but it sounds really appealing.

Thanks for the question and the tips

My DD is 14 now too and she doesn't listen to a word I say either :D although every now and then she surprises me. You guys will have a great time. The ship is beautiful and there are lots of activities.

The only thing I found is the few nights my dd "actually" wanted to hang out with me after the show, there really wasn't any place we could go. There was no family location. The teen place didn't allow adults and the clubs didn't allow kids. We went to the game room once and played cards. We went to the family comedy show and that was good. You may want to post this thread over on Cruise Line Forum (if you haven't already). They have some great ideas and tips.

I also saw a singles meet thing on board. Maybe a good way for you to find some adult company. Please post a trip report and let me know how it turns out. I'm considering doing the same thing and would love to know what you thought. Good luck and have fun!:D

You got a deal. I think it will be fun. I have cruised before (once with my son's mother and another time with a buddy) This may sound a little weird when you consider I am in sales, but when it comes to the single thing that old shy guy makes an apperance.

I think I will just remain open and see how it all goes. I am EXCITED! That I know for sure. Oh, and your suggestions about posting on the cruise line forum for suggeastions is excellent. Thanks again!!

Going as a single adult was AWESOME. Since I was a big kid at heart, I went to all of the cool character greetings. The spa was awesome, as well as going to hang out in wavebands. I made friends with the cast, and it was a trip. Disney also has a singles night just so you know. If you need other ideas, just let me know. I did the 4 day in Jan, and I am going back for the 3 day in Oct.

Singles night? I keep hearing about this singles night. What do they do? (Now I am feeling like a dunce:jester:...that whole single parent thing) anyway, sounds like fun. Any info you have or if you can point in a direction, it would be appreciated!

You know, I didn't notice anything big. As you can imagine it was slightly less than populated. But it was just a "hang loose" type of event. After that was over they started to do different types of shows like 50's night. It was a BLAST. There is so much to do, you won't realize that you are doing things by yourself.

I understand that the room prices are double occupancy... What exactly does that mean... am I going to have to pay the price of two?

PieInYourEye: That is exactly what it means. Whether you do the cruise or just get a room at one of the resorts, as a single traveler you still need to pay for double occupancy. This is the problem I am constantly running into when I want to travel. Also, this is not something that just happens at Disney. It is at just about any hotel you go to no matter where it is.
Not exactly fair, but that's the way it goes.:(

This is true for the resort rooms. I think on the cruise though you pay like 60% maybe. You would want to call on this.
