Singapore Math

Does anyone have any experience with Singapore Math? My DD's school is starting this curriculum this year for K-3rd. (She's starting 3rd.)

A quick google search gives it rave reviews, but I'd like to know if anyone has any real experience with it.

I have heard great reviews about the curriculum and we just tried it this summer. I think the curriculum is thought of as great because kids in Singapore are excellent in math and their progression is slightly different than in the USA. DD9 did the 5th grade curriculum this summer, as she is being advanced in math in the fall and I wanted her to be familiar with some concepts before school. The problems were explained well, I did not have to do any instruction. While I have not seen the K-2 curriculum, I hear good things about it from other parents.

Singapore Math has been big among homeschool families for some time. For many it's a great curriculum as it really teaches kids to use math to solve problems and not just plug different numbers into a formula. Their word problems in particular are excellent.

I used Singapore Math with my (homeschooled) daughter from K - 5th grade. It was a good fit for her and she has always tested well in math. We are using something different with my son--he needs more practice and concrete exercises than Singapore provides. This is the first I've heard of American schools using it--interesting!
