I have tried to read and re-read the stickies and I *think* this is the right place.

Can anyone offer me a suggestion for the best place to start reading about using/renting/etc. points from a DVC member? I feel like as I am perusing this site that I am probably not reading in the order that would make the most sense.

For example - is the first thing a potential renter does is just look for ads for available dates and go from there? Or do you first see if there is availability in a particular resort? Or is all of this laughable, because it is almost impossible to get in? I don't want to pepper anyone with questions, just point me in the best direction and I will read.

One other question - if someone does rent someone's points and they later add free dining, or if you want to add dining [at cost] later, are you able to do that?

THANK YOU!!

Did you read the stickies at the top of the Rent/Trade board?

If so, really your next step is to figure out where/when you would like to stay and how many points that would require. Then read the offers on the Rent/Trade board to see who has what you are looking for.

*You* as the renter cannot see availability in the resorts - only the member can do that by calling member services. What you could see on the Disney website is not what DVC members are able to book using points.

Not sure how free dining is included in your final comment, but yes, you can add PAID dining (regular price) to a points rental reservation, provided the DVC owner you are renting from is willing to do that for you.

PS - just saw your trip dates for 2011 - you are a bit late in starting - DVC members have been able to book for those dates for a while. Owners @ a particular resort (call it Resort A) can book 11 months out, owners @ other resorts can book Resort A 7 months out. So for May, you are already only 5 months out so it's getting kind of late. Not impossible most likely, but not as easy as it would have been months ago. Lastly with your family size, you will need a 2 BR or a Treehouse Villa at SSR.
