Oh to be young again.

.....DS (7th grader)came home yesterday and was so excited. He loves to read, goes through about 4 pretty big books(does the AR program at school....they needed to have 10 points each by yesterday and he already has over 30) a week on top of homework, scouts, youth group, etc. The language teacher & science teacher started a book club/he decided to join. They choose a book that the students purchase, they read a bit on their own and then a couple of times a week they sit together at lunch to talk about the book, etc. with the two teachers.

Well yesterday was book club lunch meet and he was so excited because if you are in the book club you get a VIP pass to the front of the line on meet day.:goodvibes

So what do your kids get excited about?

My DS who just turned 13 got so excited on a birthday gift from grandma - plain blue sheets for his bed - he wanted something more grown up than the Pokemon Sheets.

:goodvibes DS has Spiderman.....he wants to change his room too......I suggested Star Wars (he is crazy about Star Wars) but he said it was to kiddish......

my DD12 gets very excited over small things, lol. last week it was the school book fair. she was pretty hyped b/c i gave her $20 to spend and made no book recommendations, it was all up to her. yesterday she was all wound up about the pep rally, and how so many of her classmates dressed up like babies, complete with pacifiers.

When I was five years old my neighborhood friend asked me if I wanted to go grocery shopping with her and her mother. No car. We had to walk to the grocery store and pull the collapsible cart home. The reason she wanted me to go? They were going to buy a machine that makes chocolate milk. I was so excited. I couldn't wait to see this thing. It ended up being Bosco in a pump dispensing container! :rotfl2: I walked all that way for that?! :rotfl:

My 5 year old sister got exited because i gave her some salad with Thosand Island dressing.

When I make their favorite food
OP--ar points for reading too! They love it when they get to "spend" their points on pencils:goodvibes
A couple weeks ago, they couldn't stop talking about smashing their first pinata!:rotfl: So much so, that ds8 brought home the peices of the poor pinata shark.
All my kids get pretty excited over just little things, it makes me happy:love:

Finding a penny! DS had people LOL at the store about a year. He was talking and mid-sentence shouts out "ooh! A penny!" Um...what are you going to do with that? Who am I to crush his dreams!:lmao:

My young cousin (4 and 7) at Christmas one year got so excited about a watch his grandfather (my uncle) gave him. It was the $1.99 Spiderman toy watch that you get at Burger King. The boys were floored (and they got some high dollar crazy things that year. the watch was a stocking stuffer).

The one kid nearly fainted and screamed "Yes! YES!!!! AWWW Poppy...it's just what I WANTED!!"

Stickers. It's crazy, we were walking out of the store with something last night she's been saving her allowance for weeks, and she ended up being more excited about the sticker they gave her on the way out. :rotfl:

Oh, and the free balloons from Publix. Ours keeps them at the register, between those and the free cookie from bakery she thinks the grocery store is the coolest place in town.

i have a spiderman story as well. when we took DD to universal orlando at age 5 1/2, we rode the spiderman ride first, after waiting in line about 2 hours because it kept breaking down. DD was SOOOO amazed by it, she went around for months telling people about how spiderman saved our lives on our first trip to FL. we as adults don't think anything about it, it was just a ride and it only lasted 2-3 minutes, but to her, it was totally awesome, lol.

My family and I went to WDW in June '08 and decided to do some Christmas shopping at Downtown Disney. I made my DNiece (now 6) one of the build-it-yourself princess crowns (this is a story in itself as DGF left me alone surrounded by women building a princess crown) and a Little Mermaid figure playset because Ariel is her favorite. We went to visit my family in upstate NY for Thanksgiving and gave everyone their presents while we were there. DN opens up the Little Mermaid set (she is 5 at the time) and says, "It's just what I wanted. I never had one of these in my whole entire life." DGF and I still make jokes about it. It was one of the cutest things I have ever seen.

:goodvibes These are all great stories!! I love reading them!!!!!

Reminds me that I need to slow down and find pleasure in the small things!

DD10 was very excited yesterday because I bought her fuzzy socks. :rotfl: She hugged me and thanked me like I'd bought her a new game for her DS or something - lol.

I still get excited over brandy-new boxes of sharp pointy crayons!

And they smell good too!!!

:thumbsup2
They have to be Crayola, though-so smooth and creamy on the paper!
How about a new can of Playdough? I love the way it smells and its soft, undisturbed cylindrical sp) shape.

I set out a few Halloween decorations yesterday, and the wonder and delight on my grandson's face was just precious! He was totally enthralled with my light-up plastic Jack-O-Lantern.:rotfl:

At thirteen months, practically everything is exciting!

I know Dd doesn't get excited about this, but I do.

Saturdays. The only day cartoons were on!! I remember getting up super early and then having to wait for them to come on. Kids today just don't get it when it comes to cartoon saturdays!!

When I launch into my cartoon saturday story ( from the old days) I get an eye roll from her.

DD-13 - OOOH, as an eighth grader, she gets to sit on the back of the bus!:rotfl2: Don't tell grandma - she fought long and hard to get you out of the back of the bus:lmao:
