Simple, Superb, and Sublime…6 Days of Deluxe Dining UPDATED:THE WAVE LUNCH

Great review of Tutto - is it weird that, even though it's a kids appetiser, I think those mozzarella sticks sound great :thumbsup2

I can't believe I'm just getting to this review. This is such a great review. Especially V&A, CG & Tutto. I hadn't planned on V&A, but my DW and I are eating at the other two in October. We may just have to add V&A to the list.

Nice review of Tutto. I've considered making ADRs there for the hubby and me before, but I can't get past their prices which strike me as utterly absurd, even by WDW standards.

The last time I checked a Caesar Salad was priced at $16 and spaghetti & meatballs was around $24. :scared1:

As much as we like to splurge on vacation I'm not sure we can make the leap on this one. I know you were on the DxDP, but do you think you'd hit this place up if you were paying out of pocket?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Brenda, you are so right...it is very expensive...I confess, we did not pay much attention to menu prices because we were indeed on deluxe dining. However, I just looked again and you are correct--how crazy is is that their caeser salad is $16?! :sad2: Looks like main dishes are less expensive at lunch so I would perhaps try lunch?

After reading your recent fantastic review of BlueZoo, I think I would choose that for a dinner over Tutto! ;) Tutto is ultimately simple fare, but very well done. :goodvibes

As for your question, yes, I do think we would eat there even if not on the plan. HOWEVER, we would absolutely share starters and desserts in that case, both because of the cost and because the portion sizes truly were huge.

We have some amazing Northern Italian restaurants in our city, very authentic simple to more upscale, and several of us in the group have been to Italy multiple times, maybe that can give you an idea of our opinion. As a family, we love Italian food. Have you eaten at Lidia's in Kansas City? I have no idea where exactly your city is in Missouri... We eat there each year as a stopping point on a road trip to visit family, and our experience at Tutto (in terms of pasta, overall quality, freshness, taste, service) was that Tutto is at least as good. Lidia's wins out in a few ways, Tutto wins over Lidia's in a few. There are certainly some Italian-American dishes at Tutto, but that's not a bad thing...This won't be helpful if you have not eaten at Lidia's I guess! :rotfl: Hope that answered your question. ;)

Thanks for reading...:goodvibes

Thank you so much for the review. I cannot wait to try it in 8 weeks!!!:thumbsup2

Have a wonderful time! :goodvibes

great review of Tutto Italia! You nearly convinced me to want to try it - but besides the high prices, I rather want to eat American when I am in the USA, not Italian which I can get at home as well. :goodvibes

I know what you mean...I originally would not consider Tutto because, I thought, we eat great Italian food in our city all the time! However, I am SO glad we ended up eating there. It truly was a favorite. :)

lot of great reviews there.xx yum yum :goodvibes

Thanks for reading!

Great reviews- thanks! :goodvibes

I'm glad you enjoyed Tutto. We ate there in Nov. and thought it was ok. Maybe we'll have to give it another try sometime!

Thank you for reading!

Tutto Italia was one of my most favorite meals of our entire trip. Everything about it was awesome! I am so excited to eat there again on our next trip! I do agree the prices are crazy. One more reason I love the dining plan! ;)

Yes, one nice part about the dining plan was in not "looking" at all those menu prices...

Noooo!!! :rotfl: Here, I thought I'd narrowed down my potential restaurant choices and Tutto was NOT included in the final list... after this review, I think I have to add it back in! This alone gets my attention...

:worship::worship::worship: Oh my heck, but I love eggplant done right! I'm half Italian and get very picky about so-called "Italian" restaurants - it looks and sounds like Tutto got it all right! :thumbsup2

Oh, V, I know--I LOVE well prepared eggplant....:lovestruc I make a pasta bake that includes salted, drained, then rinsed and roasted eggplant that is yum. I really think that is the secret to good eggplant. Anyway, this was delish. The server raved about it, and he was right. AND, that marinara, seriously, SO fantastic, and so much like what I had in Florence.
Sigh. :cloud9:

Tutto looks amazing, I will have to save it for a future trip.

Try it out! Hopefully, it will remain a great spot.

Great review of Tutto - is it weird that, even though it's a kids appetiser, I think those mozzarella sticks sound great :thumbsup2

Not weird at all--I had my eye on them when they arrived and did try one. I found it so funny that she refused to eat them! Again, I think it was all about the "tomatoes" (which she loved as a baby and toddler but now despises, go figure). Order them for your children, then nab some! ;)

I can't believe I'm just getting to this review. This is such a great review. Especially V&A, CG & Tutto. I hadn't planned on V&A, but my DW and I are eating at the other two in October. We may just have to add V&A to the list.

Welcome! :flower3: Thanks for reading, and I hope your meals are as wonderful as ours were.

I think it was the salad price that stuck in my head like a 2x4. :lmao: Lunch might not be a bad way to try it ... we do that at Chef's de France because they charge more for dinner, too. I was also thinking of trying a F&W pairing at Tutto this fall if one is offered at a convenient time for us.

After reading your recent fantastic review of BlueZoo, I think I would choose that for a dinner over Tutto! ;) Tutto is ultimately simple fare, but very well done. :goodvibes

Thanks very much for the compliment - bluezoo was wonderful and we can't wait to go back there again this fall.

Another great suggestion - appetizers and desserts might be a good way to try Tutto as well. Jay and I have been known to share food on ocassion. ;)

One reason we don't usually do Italian restaurants at WDW is because there are so many fantastic Italian places here in St. Louis. We're about 45 miles west of downtown STL but for all intents and purposes we're a far-flung west suburb of Stinktown proper. And we have mucho-primo Italian eateries here.

Thanks so much for the response and the ideas!

Great review of Tutto - is it weird that, even though it's a kids appetiser, I think those mozzarella sticks sound great :thumbsup2

Not to me because thats what I want when I go mozzarella and calamari :rotfl:

Tutto gets some bad raps but looks like they've had some good reviews lately too, oh i'll never be able to decide which restaurant to choose if you all keep posting these tasty reviews
I order everyone to stop :rotfl2: jk of course keep 'em coming!! :woohoo:

Truly a wonderful review! So much great description and detail. I'm excited to read how much you enjoyed Tutto. I just made our ADR's for June on Monday and took Tutto as a second choice since we couldn't get Le Cellier. Looks like it will be a blessing in disguise. DH was very happy about this since Tutto was his first choice and Le Cellier was mine. I won the request since I was the one up dialing at 6:59:15, then he got to do the dance since we ended up with Tutto anyway AND he still got to sleep in.

Well, I have undoubtedly lost all my readers! I apologize for the BIG delay finishing this dining report up...I have not really been on the boards much for months, life makes things busy once in awhile.
So, because I am always so bummed when a reviewer stops towards the end, and I have felt sufficient guilt over my lack of attention to this review, I will, without further delay finish this thing!

In-Room Dining Wilderness Lodge (originally meant to be Jiko)
Overall Rating: 4

After a very full day at Epcot, we had intended to venture over to AKL to dine at Jiko—incidentally, this was a meal we were very much looking forward to…alas, it was not to be, we were just too tired again. This was also our last night at WDW, and given the terrific dinner we had the night before, we decided to order room service again.

This evening Dh really just wanted a pizza…there was something funny about the pizza ordering where they only let the whole party order it or something…I cannot now recall exactly what the deal was, but he kept trying to be logical with them about the fact that his meal would be 2 credits and 2 credits was certainly more “value” than a pizza was worth, etc…anyway, it was a silly policy in our opinion, and the rest of us did not want pizza. So, we ended up paying out of pocket for Dh’s pizza and used dining credits for my meal and DD’s (strange, because Disney would have gotten more out of our “waste,” or use of 2 credits on pizza versus those 2 credits being used at Jiko, for instance. Maybe they do this to avoid a family ordering 3 pizzas at the same time all on each person’s credit allotment???). Anyway, it worked out fine but was a bit silly.

After another short wait of about 25 minutes our fearless server Hernan knocked and brought in our dinner. We noticed right away that french fries for DD’s “side” had been forgotten (DD loves french fries and they were her “treat,” I think we ordered green beans and fruit for her other sides, so she really wanted them). He was beside himself apologizing and saying it was his error…actually I am pretty sure it was the somewhat twitty guy on the phone who forgot them—he also forgot to send up cornbread we had specifically asked for (I am pretty sure of this because he sort-of made a deal about it not being included—even though it clearly was the night before, but assured us he would include some). Anyway, Hernan was overly apologetic and we let him know it was no big deal, after all I had fries with my meal and she could share mine. He was back within—seriously—3-4 minutes with fresh, hot french fries.

Pizza with Sausage, Green Peppers, and Black Olives—

Dh’s pizza was huge! It did not get finished…so, to Disney’s credit, this would easily feed a family of 4. I tried a bite and while I very much dislike sausage (I nibbled a non-sausage bite) it was pretty good. Not the best pizza to be had, but good. The crust was great, slightly crispy and with a nice chewy bite to it, but soft on the inside. The cheese was cheesy and yummy, veg fresh. I think the part we liked least, and perhaps others who complain about Disney pizza, is the sauce. It simply tasted like tomato paste. Anyway, Dh loves pizza of almost any kind so really enjoyed it!

Because it was a pizza, and we paid out of pocket, Dh did not receive a starter or dessert. This was FINE! We were so full at this point, we barely shared what came with mine!

IMG_8749.jpg

Kid’s Grilled Chicken—with Steamed Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes

We asked for fries in place of mashed, see above, and she did get them eventually, but they sent mashed too. (DD just happens not to like mashed potatoes, or as she calls them “tomatoes.”) The chicken was a bit yucky I must say…I mentioned this earlier about the kids meals. The quality of the meat was simply not great. She ate a bite or two of chicken and that was it. I think she was very full at this point just like we were. The beans were excellent, crisp, fresh, well prepared.

House-made chips and Salsa

Once again, I ordered the massive chips to share. Delish again! Fresh, homemade chips and a large serving of mild salsa on the side.
Oh, I also ordered hot tea for my beverage, which Dh drank.

IMG_8747.jpg

Cheeseburger with French Fries

I am not normally a big beef eater, and only have a burger very occasionally, but for some reason it sounded good to me that evening. It was! Pretty standard burger, I asked for cheddar cheese, and it was just fine. I did not eat that much being not terribly hungry after our wonderful, bountiful lunch.

Caramel Apple Pie

Same deal as the night before. Actually, I don’t think anyone ate this…I didn’t want another dessert and DD might have had a bite, but it looked lovely again!

Another excellent In-Room Dining experience at the WL! We love the convenience of room service when one is tired on vacation, so will certainly repeat on future trips. Plus, the food was quite good! Better than we expected and more than enough food for all. :thumbsup2

Overall Rating: 3
The experience itself could rate a 4 or 5, but the food was really quite mediocre to bad, bringing the overall rating down.

Our 8:05 ADR felt quite early in the am after a late meal and travel day, but in hindsight, it was also a great way to begin our first full day at the parks. We hoped on the bus to MK around 7:25-30 am and arrived at the park around 7:45. We were let right in and proceeded up to the castle. It was cold—very cold. DD had on a beautiful Cinderella dress that my stepmother made her, but was all bundled up over it. DSis and her DH joined us for this meal! :)

We were one of the first groups of the day and did not really wait at all. Cinderella was not even in place yet, she arrived shortly however. After parking our stroller we were called in to the castle vestibule hall and were perhaps the third group in line. This meant quickly unbundling DD, getting out the camera, etc…Cinderella was charming, sweet, perfect! I have to admit, for those who have not visited before, this was pretty magical for the adults as well. Something about seeing Cinderella for the first time, and watching her interact with my own child, well, it was invaluable and a great way to begin the first day at Magic Kingdom. :tinker:

Two little girls were the “Princesses of the Day” as the first family in line. They were announced and were first to ascend the stairs. We shortly followed and were seated at a fantastic table…you know the one people say is the best table? Right in the middle of the windows overlooking Fantasyland? We were in the larger table directly behind it. It was lovely—a very festive and fun medieval/Renaissance inspired space. The little girls were swooning.

Our table was decorated with confetti because I was celebrating a birthday. I discovered here that only some of the restaurants will allow adults bottled water on the plan—I was not allowed it here. I often drink tap water at home, but we found the water at WDW to be a bit swampy. The orange juice was kinda yucky…I mean, just standard high acid juice, definitely from concentrate. Our server was enthusiastic, efficient, and quick.

OH—also, we remembered a really terrific piece of advice I read on another TR about early morning character breakfasts at this point: ask for the check when you sit down! So smart…in fact, our server commented how smart and told us she was “first in line” for checks and there were already several servers in line behind her (this was at 8:15, only ten minutes after the first round were seated). She never rushed us, but this gave us the control over when we wanted to leave. And, boy did it get hectic in there quickly…For the first 20 minutes it was pretty quiet and very pleasant.

We were told that we could pick between the “traditional” and “healthy” options for breakfast. All but me choose the traditional, kids did not have a choice. Here is the description:

Adults $34.99

Children 3-9 $23.99

You MUST Make Reservations in Advance!

Admission into the Magic Kingdom is required.

Pre-Plated, All You Care to Eat Meal Brought to Your Table

Fresh Fruit
Scrambled Eggs
Bacon
Sausage
Cheese Danish
French Toast
Potato Casserole
Healthy Choice: Granola - LowFat Yogurt - Caramelized Bananas

Children received a plate with scrambled eggs, two French toast sticks, syrup, and then could partake from the fruit and pastries as well. DD also was given a wishing star and a magic wand (that she carried around the entire week).

First to arrive were the two pedestal bowls of fresh fruit (with five people in our party we received two each of the fruit and pastries). The fruit was excellent—probably the best part of the meal—ripe and yummy, great mango.
The baskets of pastries included two cinnamon buns, two or three muffins each (blueberry and banana I think…) biscotti, and croissant. These were okay…they were a bit dry. I think the muffins were the winners. I had one bite of a cinnamon bun and no more.

IMG_8259.jpg

We then quickly received our main meals. DH and DSis and her DH all got the traditional plated meal (and could have ordered more if they liked). Honestly, this food was not so hot—actually not very good and not very hot temp. wise! I tasted one bite of DH’s French toast and it was terrible. He barely ate his meal. I think DSis and her DH felt similarly…

IMG_8261.jpg

Mine, however, was quite good. It was a huge and nicely presented bowl of low-fat strawberry yogurt over a raisin granola, topped with fresh fruit. Hard to mess up really, but it was good.

IMG_8260.jpg

DD’s meal was marginal too. Her eggs seemed fine, she ate some, along with one French toast stick. The French toast was completely dried out—I mean it clearly had sat under a hot plate for some time…which is silly considering we were one of the first tables of the day.

IMG_8262.jpg

I was brought a little iced birthday cake as well, with Mickey sprinkles and a candle. Yes, they even sang happy birthday…it was a good little cake! I had a bite, and DD and others had a few.

The upshot is this: the food really wasn’t good—at all. Yet, we still all loved the experience and felt it was worth the money/credits! As we ate the princesses began to walk around the room and it was enchanting in that setting. Aurora and Jasmine came first, and they were somewhat abrupt and not terribly engaging with DD (I was disappointed), but then Snow White and Belle came by and they could not have been more sweet or engaging! Snow White chatted with us and stayed around for several photos, Belle was equally wonderful and attentive to DD (these last two actually got down on her level as well). Belle also left by asking DD if she could give her a hug—it was darling when DD threw her arms around her! That was worth the breakfast alone ;)

Shortly after we met the princesses we left. I am not sure when the “wishing ceremony” took place, but we were all eager to head down for rope drop (we walked out at about 8:50). When we were leaving bedlam was beginning to set in downstairs…early ADR= good idea.

We all decided that this was a wonderful experience and well worth the effort in securing the ADR (yes, I got up at the crack of dawn 180 days prior). We also decided that we will probably not revisit on the next trip, but certainly sometime again.

Hey Joanna! :goodvibes I found you! :)

Too bad your experience at CRT was so different than ours! Strange because we were there at the exact same time!:confused3

We absolutely adored the food at CRT! In fact my husband loved the eggs so much he requested the recipe from the chef! :)

It was a great way to start the day though twasn't it? We were so happy to be able to hit fantasylamd at RD and be on Dumbo without a wait!

You are doing a great job with this review! Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

to see you continuing your reviews!!:cheer2:

We will be at WL in just a few more days!! I am so pleased to see the good reviews of the in-room dining. We are also doing the deluxe dining plan, have dinner ressies at several signature places, but with your reviews of the inroom service I am ready to alter our plans if eating in the room just sounds better that evening. It is vacation after all.:goodvibes

You know, that occurred to me...that you guys loved your food...:confused3

Mine was actually pretty good, as I mentioned, but all others at our table thought it was pretty terrible! It certainly could be that their meals were sitting out? Didn't matter, it was indeed a totally magical way to start the trip! We didn't regret it one bit. :goodvibes

Thank you! :goodvibes

Have a fabulous time! I know you will. We just LOVED the WL, and plan to return next year, and do Deluxe Dining again. I know, I was very happy that In-Room Dining turned out to be such a terrific option...we were wiped out, and much as we adore fine dining as much as possible (esp. on vacation) it was wonderful to have such relaxing and very good meals in the comfort of jammies in our room. :cloud9:

Also, I thought the fact that I was offered any of the fish dishes from Artist Point that first time we called for In-Room was extraordinary. Any other night and I would have taken them up on the offer! (Because AP was incredible the night we ate there).

I truly hope your trip will be as magical as ours was! :wizard:

Oh, I am so happy that you came back to finish your reviews! Room service sounds wonderful, I guess I need to try that some time in the future. :goodvibes

Great reviews. Glad you didn't finish too early or I would have missed it. Thanks for posting.

What great reviews - and I love it that you have a sophisticated 3 year old with you - my DB, DSIL, and DN are going at the end of the month, and the little princess (2.5) has quite the palate as well - it has been amazing to send your reviews to my SIL - we are both very grateful for them!

Any chance Akershus will be up soon? I can't wait to read your view on that meal, as they are doing dinner there the last night.

Thanks for your wonderful writing~!

Great reviews...I've loved reading through this thread and looking ath the pictures!

The pizza in the photo looks so much better than the pizza I ordered at All Star Movies several years ago. I vowed to never order it again because it tasted so bad. I wonder if the pizza has improved since then!

glad to have you back! :goodvibes

Aw, thanks very much for the sweet comments! I am so happy our experience could be helpful to your SIL and her family. We have always taken the attitude that we could continue to eat well after having kids as long we incorporated DD into the experience of eating, dining out, cooking, etc...and, for the most part it has worked! She loves to help me cook. She is becoming even more adventurous now, having sampled soft-shell crab and authentic Dim Sum last weekend! :thumbsup2 She certainly has her picky days, but don't we all?

Yes, Akershus will be up shortly. Although, we had breakfast there...

Thanks again for reading! :goodvibes

Yeah, I didn't expect much and warned Dh, having read some bad reviews, but it was really quite good! And SO huge...my sis was up in our room when it arrived and it looked so good to her she went down and ordered the same thing with her Dh for dinner that night. She said their pizza was very good as well. :thumbsup2

Next review coming up....

Akershus Princess Storybook Dining
Overall Rating: 3/4

Great experience overall, food was good, not great, character interaction excellent. Busier and longer waits than at CRT, but we will return.

Our last morning at WDW was going to be early, and hectic, as we needed to check out, check into the airline, and leave luggage with bell services. All this needed to be done by about 7:20 AM, in order to make it to our Akershus 8:05 ADR! Yikes…I had finished most of the packing the night before, but it was an early morning! We actually left the WL on time, amazing…

The bus got us to Epcot before opening and we entered the park through one special turnstile for breakfast goers.

IMG_8765.jpg

IMG_8764.jpg

The park was deserted, but once we arrived in Norway, around 8, we saw how packed this restaurant was already. I was surprised, mainly because our “first of the day” ADR at Cinderella’s Royal Table was not at all busy when we first arrived. We actually had to wait a good 20 minutes here until our family was even called to enter the picture line, for another wait. Also, we saw far more irritable parents here than anywhere in WDW, not sure why…several families bummed us out after witnessing some mean mommies and daddies (shouting and withholding affection as punishment!!! :confused3), with very sweet children. I only mention this because we were in line for so long, and it was uncomfortable to witness, not to mention confusing for DD. AND, we had not yet seen any truly inappropriate behavior from anyone in the World.

There was, however, a very sweet woman behind us who complimented DD on her Belle dress. :cloud9: This was dress #2 made by my stepmom for DD (she also made her a Cinderella dress), she looked incredible, and the dress was a smash hit. All day long women kept stopping me to ask where I bought it, a few immediately said, “Oh, someone made that, didn’t they, you cannot buy one like that from Disney.” One CM even stopped to chat about it and told me that Belle herself told her she would never wear the one’s Disney makes! All the scratchy material used, in the one's I have seen by Disney, was not an option for our DD’s sensitive skin. It was dazzling for DD, who received many nice comments and “Hello, Princesses” that day. princess: Someone asked awhile back about pics of the dresses, so here are a few...thanks to the talents of my stepmom.

The nice lady in line also struck up a conversation about DD’s hair which she liked—I had braided it in pigtail braids, then looped the braids up with bows (our standard “fancy” hair). The lady was talking about BBB and mentioned she was surprised at some of the hairstyles she had seen. Any of you who may have doubts, as I did, about your little DD’s asking about other girls and feeling left out by not doing BBB, well, DD never even noticed! Or, if she did, she didn’t mention it. We were not entirely comfortable with make-up and teased hair on our three year old. At any rate, Belle herself oohed and ahhed over DD’s dress and hair—she seemed extremely genuine and sweet.

Here is a shot looking into a larger room just off where we sat.

IMG_8808.jpg

We were seated in a little back room towards the front of the restaurant and our server was Haakon—Dh was trying to be pleasant and learn to correctly pronounce Haakon, but Haakon was a bit snippy. Equally so when I asked about Mickey waffles for our table (on another Dis TR tip…) and was shot down in no uncertain terms. He informed me they were ONLY for those with food allergies…? I have a food allergy…I’m kidding, he made sure there was no mustard in the platter we were brought, but he was a bit rude about the waffles. I suspect another server would have happily brought them (and I saw several families with them).

Another thing Haakon denied me was bottled water for my beverage. DD received one, but apparently adults are not allowed? I know others have gotten it here, but I was not able.

We made our way one at a time to the cold buffet. Dh went first and was delighted by the fish selections. He loved the marinated herring, I believe one was a standard pickled herring and the other a tomato marinated? I did not try them, but he said they were excellent and he would know. There was a good amount of fresh fruit and several different types of pastries; cinnamon rolls, red fruit Danish, buttermilk biscuits, and raspberry muffins.

I grabbed a plate for DD and myself which included some fresh fruit and pastries. DD did not like the biscuits (nor did I, a bit dry) but the raspberry muffin was quite good, moist, very fruity, and with a nice sweet sugar crust on top. The jam was lovely as well.

Our platter of shared food arrived shortly and was very good overall. The bacon and sausage were sub-par (seems like that was true all over Disney in our experience), but the eggs were perfectly cooked, soft and creamy, and the potato casserole that many have raved about was good. I believe it had onions in it (I am not a big fan of onions) so I only sampled it. But it was nice enough. We all agreed that the food here was better than at CRT—even if it was not great here. We have preliminarily decided we will return here next trip over CRT. CRT wins slightly in our book for the overall experience (despite the terrible food we had), but given the higher cost and difficulty in securing an ADR we would return to Akershus first. Funnily, Akershus was busier and more difficult to navigate to get in the door…this may also have been due to the day of week (the day we visited was a Saturday, CRT was a Tuesday morning).

We did have to wait for the Princesses to come around, because we were in that small room at the end of the line. They were sweet and took some time with us.

We saw Snow White, Jasmine (this Jasmine was so much nicer than the CRT Jasmine), Aurora, and Mary Poppins! Hooray! We love Mary. Aurora made things extra magical for DD when she asked, “Haven’t we met earlier this week?” then proceeded to “find” her signature, which she was sure she had already given at the castle, and say “yes, I was correct, why don’t I just give this page a kiss instead of signing again?” It was so sweet and DD was beaming…I don’t really think it was the same Aurora…so, maybe she made a lucky guess??? Very fun! Excellent character interaction here! We will return.

Thanks for the Akershus review! It is as I thought - princess=not-so-perfect meal, but a great experience.

Your DD is just so cute....and her dresses are beautiful! Yay not-wicked-step mother! And I think her hair looked much prettier than pulled up BBB style - DN isn't old enough for BBB, and my DB would rather DIE than have her have make up on - so thanks for the heads up that she won't even miss it!

Again, your reviews are wonderful - thanks!
