Simple question

:lmao: simple question.

Easier for us would be, would you buy now.

No I would not.

We got our points for less than $60 and have pretty much recouped our buy in cost and dues.

But the points now are just too high for what they offer. I would definitely look at a small contract on resale and try it on for a couple of years before I made a large monetary investment.

If you need or want a one bedroom or two bedroom villa than yes it can save you money over booking that with Disney at full rack rate.

If you want to take advantage of all the discounts Disney is offering now for even DVC properties then no it is not worth it.

Yes Yes and Yes,:lovestruc
I will tell you why I think so. It makes you take the time to go on vacations. In today's world everyone is so busy, and family members are all running around in different directions. I see as my older grandchildren are so involved in sports and school activities.
I for one think a vacation is important.I am that crazy girl who is planning the next vacation as soon as I get home from one. Luckily for me, my grown children and now my growing grand children still love Disney and Disney cruises.
When things may get hectic or crazy throughout the year knowing we have a few more months before we go away again really helps .

I would agree with this if you think the cost of going to Disney is likely to fall.
Which with the slow economy is a possibility.

IMO I dont think it is likely that the cost of going to Disney will decline by any significant amount.

Occupancy rates remain good and DVC sales are holding up relatively well.

Abbreviated answer: if you are going to keep coming back, and back, and back.... anyway, YES!

Disney is discounting DVC villas as much as 45%, that is a major savings. Will it last, who knows. But based on the discounts one can find now and the cost of points, I would not recommend it to anyone unless they can find a good price on resale.

For DW n me, we love the resorts and will take vacations without every setting foot in the parks/water parks/etc. We can enjoy any resort! When we purchased we payed much less than DVC charges today. We are staying for free, now and would not choose to have any other timeshare type vacation membership.

If you have to ask, probably not.

Ziggy Stardust tells us "not to blow it for he knows it's all worthwhile"!

Let the children boogie!

The answer with that amount of info is "it depends".
I agree with Dean: standard MBA answer, it depends.

I think DVC is a great product and I'm glad we own it, but whether it is cost-effective to purchase now depends on your family, your vacation habits, your finances, how and when you buy, and many other factors.

I also partially agree with Sammie -- I certainly would NOT buy direct right now. The direct-from-DVC prices are just way out of touch with reality. I'd consider resale if I were in the market to buy...provided I could pay cash.

IMHO, people who buy direct from DVC and finance through DVC are paying several times what they should pay by the time they pay the loan off.

I also think a LOT of people have bought DVC - and are still buying DVC - who can't really afford it. Many of them went through all kinds of mathematical gymnastics to come up with some kind of make-believe "justification" to buy something they just wanted, and now they're paying the price. The proof of that is all the foreclosures and givebacks DVC is eating right now.

Is it worth it?

as others have said:

-IF you buy resale
-IF you intend to use DVC to travel to wdw and rarely trade out for other destinations
-IF you're not happy with the value resorts or don't prefer "free" dining
-IF you don't mind giving up daily mousekeeping

then yes, it's worth it.

but for some people, it definitely would not suit how they vacation...

For me, yes! I bought in at $61 and did not finance my 210 points. The maintenance is manageable and living in Florida the travel expenses are minimal. I typically do 3 to 4 day stays when my son has off of school! It works for us, today just as it did when I bought in 2000!

Is it worth it?

I'm with Sammie,

Depends on how you look at that question. I brought at a relatively good price (87$ bucks for bcv) and I also brought when I think the overall quality for disney was a lot better.

So my standard answer is, Do I regret purchasing, no not at all. would I purchase today? No. Would I recommend it to a friend looking to purchase? No.

Is it worth it?

We're a family of 5 who go just about every year (3 years in 4, at least).

We like to stay in deluxe hotels (which, for our family size, is ALMOST necessary...barring a room with a trundle at PO or a Family Suite at ASM).

My wife and I have been Disney Nuts since we were kids...we came here before we had kids, and will likely want to come here long after the kids have left home.

We paid mostly cash and financed the rest for less than a year.

We like to plan our trips FAR in advance.

For us, it was worth it. We get big rooms with lots of space at deluxe resorts for a fraction of the cost per night at a Disney Deluxe hotel. We have a pretty fixed cost (though dues rates change) for our vacation every year and it's VASTLY less than what our OOP costs would be, amortized out. We bought in JUST before the recent sort of "skyrocketing" of price per point (we bought in around $95 per point). For us, it makes sense and is worth it. I actually wish we'd bought in sooner, but...alas...the capital was going to other places.

If you don't go at least every other year, or you don't prefer to stay at deluxe hotels at WDW, or you want to be able to go to places other than Orlando for vacation (not in addition to, but OTHER than), or you can't fund a good portion of your purchase in cash (or can't pay it off quickly to avoid significant interest charges), or you feel you can find significant discounts (free dining, room discounts, etc) that would offset your "per night" DVC savings......

The answer very well might be "no".

Nobody can really answer the question "Is it worth it" for you. You have to sit down and take a hard look. Does it work for your family? Does it work for you pocketbook? Nobody who is not walking in your fuzzy Mickey slippers is likely going to be able to answer that for you.

Is it worth it?

Yes. You will enjoy it, make plans far in advance, develop addonitis, continually watch the new listings at The Timeshare Store, Inc.®, tell your friends and neighbors about all your trips, and you will try and visit all the resorts at least once (vacation goal).
