Morning,

We are looking to buy DVC so that we can visit Disney more frequently and really have a 'Home from Home' feel

Do Disney allow people to have Christmas trees In their room (if I get a cheap one from Walmart) or decorate their rooms for birthdays, Halloween etc?

We are just thinking about when we plan to go at different times of the year

Inside the room you can decorate so long as you aren't damaging walls or furnishings. I have had a Christmas tree in my room many times, and had Halloween decorations that were free-standing that could sit on tables or counters.

Do you buy cheap trees that you throw away when you leave? What do you do?

I drive, so I take a tree and decorations back home with me. But there are certainly cheap trees out there that you could buy and dispose of if you choose. I actually prefer a smaller tree (maybe 4 feet) that I can either put on the counter of the one bedroom villas or on the dresser or TV cabinet of the studios, so I'm not limiting floor space.

A lot of people who have DVC, especially people who fly, I'd guess, use a service called Owner's Locker. (Check out their website.) They give you a large plastic tote to store items. They deliver it to the resort and then you fill it with anything you use on your trips, but don't want to lug back and forth. Ponchos, toiletries, cooking items, etc. They will pick it up and store it for you until you return. I think a basic plan for one trip a year is $105. If you were traveling every year at Christmas, it might be worth it to store a small tree that breaks down and decorations, particularly if you would also find it useful to store other items.
I suppose even if you drive, it would be useful to not have to store that stuff at your house and bring it every year.

Unless things have recently changed, Disney Florist will set up and decorate a tree in your room. It's expensive, but the service is there.

DVC asks members not to put any decorations where they can be seen from the outside of the villa to take away from the look of the resort. You are not permitted to use tape or tacks to put up your decorations.

Must not be enforced well. This past Christmas you could see Christmas decorations in Villa rooms, from the outside.

While we are not DVC Members (yet) I seem to remember seeing a post around Thanksgiving on the DVC Forum about sharing Christmas Trees. One guest would set it up with either guest services or luggage services to hold the tree for the next guest. I don’t recall the exact procedure but you might search for the info.

The one time we were at WDW for Christmas, we packed a mini-tree and decorations from home. It actually turned out really special, because we let our D pick it all out, and she has set up that mini-tree in her room at home every year since then. :)

Originally I wanted to have the Disney Florist do it because I thought it would be easier...then I saw the price and passed out, lol! I believe at the time it was around $400. :(

At the Boardwalk, several times over Christmas, I’ve seen lights strung on the balconies. It’s festive. I’m not debating whether it’s allowed.
We stopped at Target on our way from the airport and I found a little tree for like $5. We brought stockings & little gifts. I left the tree when we checked out.

The rule isn't enforced well like many of Disney's rules.

We've done this a few times. Also use suction cups on the windows to hang lights or stockings. It's the balconies that they have an issue with you decorating. But even then it seems to be hit or miss with enforcement.
