Similar resorts near DVC Hilton Head?

We've gone to Hilton Head a few times in the summer and my kids love it and are asking to go back again next year. I don't think we'll have points available to use, thinking we'd be paying for the room so we're considering looking for a nearby resort that might have similar activities. (Last summer when we were there one of the recreation CMs that my kids liked was leaving the next week for another resort but I can't remember what it was? A Hilton property?) Anyone have ideas/suggestions for nearby options that would be similar?

From a timeshare standpoint the top 3 resorts are Marriott's (Grande Ocean, Barony & Surfwatch). After that it's Marriott's Monarch (on beach in sea pines), the other Marriott's and DVC all pretty close depending on how important location is to you. Hotels on the beach would include Westin, Marriott, Sonesta, Omni, Beach House, HI Express plus a ton of condo's on the beach and many other options not on the beach. One of the Spinnaker timeshares is also on the beach I believe. IMO Grande Ocean is the top option if a 2 BR for a week is needed. A private rental might be the best option.

following.. We all loved HHI and would love to go back...But I don't think the pocketbook is going to expand that far next summer so something similar but possibly a tad cheaper there might be a nice alternative.

You can usually score a good deal at the Westin resort depending on what time of the year you go. I haven't stayed there but had a planned trip there that we had to cancel but it seemed like a very nice resort. I usually try to stay exclusively at SPG properties if I'm not at Disney World and it looks like it compares well with other Westin's I've stayed in.
