We have been twice in 1992 and 2004 and we love it (particularly me). It is a very different day from the busy parks in Orlando - a very steady day, and a very relaxing one.
We managed to do everything there was to do, although saying that, a couple of the attractions were closed in 2004 as we visited just after the big hurricane that took a lot of the trees down and a fair bit of the area was still flooded. The only bit the kids found boring was a glass bottomed boat ride called the Fort King River Cruise because it was about the history of settlers in the area and it did not interest any of us to be honest. Other than that, it was a wonderful day out and I would recommend it (the boys especially liked feeding the giraffes with ryvitas).
Thankyou coppertop it sounds like just what we need for a day away from the themeparks! my dd will be made up that there are giraffes there, she loves them!
Was an annual pass holder there at one time we liked it so much. As has been said, it it a lovely relaxed day out. Worth a phone call before you go to see if they have any concerts on - they used to have them every Sunday but I don't know if that's still the case. Ony downside with SS is the distance from Orlando - it is about a 1.5 - 2 hour drive depending on traffic though that may be better with the Western Beltway open.
