I have a 2 yr old calico/tortie mix who is a very silly girl. I think goofyness might be a trait of her "breed" as I've heard other people say that tortie's are especially nutty cats.

Her latest ritual is almost every time (literally) I come home from work or get up from the couch, she runs over to me squeaking (that's how she "talks") & throws herself on the ground on her side with her belly up & does this big dramatic stretch. But if I try to rub her belly, she pushes my hand away. If I walk away, she squeaks & moves closer to where I am & repeats her dropping.

She also tries to "talk" to our other kitty (more reserved tuxedo cat). She runs over to her and starts lightly squeaking....our other kitty usually either walks away or bops her on the head in response to this:laughing: They have a love-hate relationship. I read that cats never meow to each other to communicate, but my crazy cali/tortie does!

She also loves having her tail rubbed. When she is looking for one, she will walk up to you and curl her tail around your leg and wait. If you don't oblige, she squawks at you and moves around to your other leg & repeats the process. She will do this to strangers too!

Anyone else have a calico or tortoise shell cat with nutty behavior?

I have a calico-tiger. calico patches on her forehead & Bengal tiger stripes on her back. I think calicos have patchy personalities, like their fur markings.

Your kitty sounds adorable. She sounds like she's gossiping to your tuxedo kitty. And when the other has had enough or hears something really outrageous, she will bop her on the head. :lmao:

I'm sorry, but to properly respond to your post, I must see pictures!! :goodvibes

I love kittehs, especially when they're acting silleh :lovestruc

We have five cats inside that are brothers and sisters. Two are calico girls, one is a yellow and white striped girl, one is a huge white male with very little yellow, and one is a pretty good size male that is mostly white with losts of variations of yellow. One of the calico girls talks and lays down like that. DS19 claimed her as soon as she was born and she is definitely his. She "grieved" for him when he went to college at Christmas time. When he is home, he "talks" back to her and she leads him to where she wants to lay down so he can rub her. They are all so funny!!!

We also have a two-year-old tortoise shell. She is blue-gray and cream and orange. She is also a complete nut and tears around the house like she is on fire. Sometimes she is more like a dog than a cat but she does a very good job of keeping our older cat on his toes. He is sixteen and would rather sleep all day yet she forces him to play and exercise. They are good for each other.

ETA - I forgot to mention that there are several things we have to do before we go to bed or we get no rest at night because of Sara's nightly activities. We have to close the piano lid or she will sit on the bench and tap on the keys. We have to open the living room blinds about eight inches or she paws at them because she can't see out. We have to leave a bowl of water in the bathtub because she prefers bathtub water to her water bowl. We also have to close the doors to the kids' bedrooms or she pounces on them when they are sleeping.

We have a calico (see avatar) who has more personality than any cat I have ever owned. She is very attached to me. She has to sleep right up against me at night. She pushes and pushes to get as close as possible. She loves to be picked up and patted and she greets us when we come home. She is the sweetest thing.

We adopted an older calico that was left outside in 0 degree weather and 40 mile per hour winds--declawed. She ended up on our hottub and my daughter opened our sliding door and she came in and has never left.
Apparently neighbors down the street put her out because she didn't get along with their other cats. After we had her about a month I was out in our driveway and I brought her out with me when one of her old owners came up to me and said, "we thought she got killed?" Next thing they were moving and told us that since we were attached to her to keep her. She certainly is a handful. Just loves my husband--has to sit on his lap while he reads the paper. Anytime anyone goes in the kitchen she is right there to eat even if she ate 5 min. ago. She likes to do the stretches and what my kids call "exercise" too. Weighs about 15 pounds!! We just love her!!

We rescued a tortie/calico mix back in May and she quickly became part of our family. She's been meowing at our bedroom doors at about 4:30 in the morning because she wants company. She loves to play and sit outside in our Florida room looking at everything going on outside.

She weighs about 8 pounds and is the cutest thing.

We have a 3 yo Tortie named Cinderella - she is so affectionate and very playful. She loves attention and cuddling, but also loves to be outside playing. She hates having her stomach rubbed though. She is very smart and knows how to push my buttons like when she jumps on my kitchen counters-hate that! I have never had a tortie before, but she is very unique.

See pictures. Enough said.

All cats are weird.:rotfl2:

I have 3 cats, only one is a tortoiseshell(Kycha), and they all exhibit that type of nutty behavior.

Kycha is a heavy sleeper(and she snores). You can walk right up to her and she won't make a move until you touch her. For a long time, we thought she was losing her hearing. Then we discovered her love of potato chips.:rotfl:I can call her name for 10 minutes and she won't move a muscle. But the first crinkle of a potato chip bag and she comes running.

My Blackie (formerly feral - now totally domesticated) greets me at the door and flings himself (with such force that I'm afraid he's going to hurt himself :)) to the floor - belly up - and demands to be rubbed.

If, for any reason, I can't pet him as soon as I walk in - groceries in hand, etc. - he flings himself down, waits a second or two, gets up, repositions himself and re-flings himself down. He'll repeat this until I pet him :)

However, Blackie (now a year old, I've had him since he was trapped in December) does not and has never made a sound. He purrs, but never meows, mews or chirps. I was told that feral kittens learn from their parents to keep quiet as not to draw attention to themselves. My Mackey talks like there is no tomorrow, and Blackie just sits there quietly :)

We have a long-haired tortie named Cocoa who turned 16 in May. She's very large and used to weigh 13lbs until 2 1/2 years ago when she developed malabsorption and got "The Skinny." She is fur and bones but has a great appetite and is very happy and active. The vet says that she could be skinny for years before she probably develops lymphoma.
On a happier note she has always been quirky. When she was younger she played fetch with a paper ball and she always chirped and clicked instead of meowing. For the last few years she "talks" to the blanket on the back of the couch while she kneads it in preparation for sleep. She also lies with her head over her water bowl and talks to it to! Like one of the kitties in another post everyone is required to admire and pet her tail as well. She may be old and skinny but she's still fun!

:rotfl: Thank you for sharing your stories and photos and please add more if you have them!! I LOVE reading about your silly kitties! It's funny how similar traits your torties/calicos have with my silly girl. She's a burrower as well & she's extremely overdramatic!!

And without further ado, here is my silly little girl:

Let's see.

Charity (Calico #1) is a psychopathic antisocial nutjob. She was sweet when she was younger. Would literally sleep on top of my pillow.I called her my helicopter because of her purr. Now, she stays in my mom's room and only comes out ever few days (we had to put food, water, and a litterbox in there.) My mom is the only person she likes, sometimes she does not even tolerate the rest of us.

Eowyn (Calico #2) is a total sweetheart and a goofball. My father found him when he was walking in our cul de sac with Schnitzel (our dachshund.) She let him carry her half a mile home, and then drape her around his neck when he told my mom he brought roadkill home for supper. She nests on anything you put down. Little kitchen rugs? They get balled up with any manner of things hidden underneath. She loves mardis gras beads. I cut the loop so she can play with them. If she hears them, she comes running. She's the same way about those plastic balls with bells in them. But they must be the slitted variety. At night when the boys (my other cat and dogs) join me, it is Eowyn's playtime. I can literally hear her dragging her beads across my kitchen floor and around corners while she meows. I forgot to mention that when she pounces she does this adorable little butt shake to wind up. Her nickname is Piggles. (Was Wiggles, then she gained weight).

The other cat is Makya, her boyfriend. Although Eowyn was originally my parents' we decided that we could not separate them.

Ailaina (Tortie) is also a total loon. She was raised by Schnitzel and thinks she is a dog. She cannot meow so she chirps. I swear, it is her trying to bark. She has adopted my father, and when he walks her dog, she sits and the window and will cry until they come back. She will randomly skitter around, going nuts. She loves crumpled up cigarette packs (my mom smokes) and twisty ties. When my mom throws away her empty packs, she cannot crumple them up because if Ailaina hears them she will come running and try to fish them out of the trash. We do let her have any twisty ties that do not have metal in them. We have to be careful though. If you set down a twisty tie for even a second, she will steal it. With the other cats she is a total weenie, but she discovered my dog Eragon is even more chicken than she is nad will bully him whenever we come home. It came ot the point that when he would see her he would turn around and run the other way! Thankfully she has not done tht in awhile.

You all should count your lucky stars you have great friendly loving calicos because I have the spawn of satin living in my house. We don't know where our loving cute little calico kitten went. She's just pure evil I tell ya. She likes no one unless her food bowl is empty or her cat box needs cleaning. The only time she ever purrs is when she is in our room waking us up at 5am and for what we don't know. My dh can bend down to pet her and she'll hiss at him with such hatred. If we pick her up she will start growling at us and then if we don't put her down she'll growl and hiss at us. She chases my other cat around the house biting his back legs. If we open the door and theres a cat outside she'll start hissing at them too.

Any the funniest part of her is that when it comes to my kids she is nuteral with them. She will sleep with, play with them, bug the crap outta of them one minute and then go psycho on them the next.
Her name is chloe.
