Thanks! I knew it wasn't there in '83!!!
In 1974 in
Disneyland, "America Sings" opened in the revolving theater that once held the "Carousel of Progress" (which performers and sets had been moved to the new MK in WDW).
"America Sings" was a series of vignettes that featured popular traditional songs from the earliest days of the USA up to about the mid-20th century.
The "performers" in the show were various animals: frogs, weasels, opossums, rabbits, turtles, etc.
When that attraction finally closed in 1988, another use was found for all of these animal performers... they were incorporated in a BRAND NEW Disney "log flume" ride named "Splash Mountain".
The ride was SO revolutionary at the time that it is said it was delayed in opening because its DROP was so FAST that a few of the CM's who "previewed" it suffered some (very) minor muscle and joint discomfort from its effects.
It was supposedly "toned down", and "Splash" soon became one of THE most popular attractions at Disneyland (I, myself, stood in well-over 2 HOUR queue-lines in those pre-FP days.)
So, naturally, in a few years "Splash" was duplicated (for the most part) and added to WDW's MK in 1992.
We loved to see it being built in the WDW MK when we visited during the previous year, as I had seen the DL version rise when we were out on a CA trip.
So, no, there was no Splash Mountain in WDW in 1983... Heck, the original Splash in Disneyland's animal "cast" would still be SINGING over in Tomorrowland for another 5 years after that!
