Last night I was putting together things for our trip (I pack way too early but I'm excited!) I have several containers of fruit, I think its Dole fruit cups or something like that. Its fresh fruit in liquid in plastic containers. This morning my DD said we probably won't be allowed to bring those into Calif. because of those check points where they ask if you have any fruit. I said I don't think they mean this kind of stuff but thought I'd ask here just to be sure.

Thanks!!

I think between states is ok - its between countries that you have customs and check points. Anyone else know for sure?

I do know that you are not allowed to bring fruits, vegetables, plants or meat products across the border from Canada into the US.

I have never heard of it being a problem between states. I don't think you will have a problem especially since it is packaged and sealed.

It must be between states too because when we drive into Calif. from Nevada there is always a check point where they stop everyone and ask if they have any fruit. If you do you have to leave it with them and cannot bring it into the state. I just didn't know if it applied to this kind of fruit.

<font color=navy>As long as the fruit is vacuum sealed from the company, then it is okay. No fresh fruit, though, because the checkpoints will take it. California has a huge agricultural economy, and they try really hard not to jeopardize that.

(My cousins came from TX by car & made me laugh when they said they realized in AZ that they had fruit, and were approaching CA. They were eating that stuff as fast as they could!) :sunny:

The checks between Oregon/ California border are closed to cars because of budget cuts. I was so surprised when we were able to just drive through. I think they were still stopping big trucks though. I can't imagine you would have trouble with something sealed like that but you never know.

ahh the *infamous* check point- We had the same eat it all problem but its was with the 2 BOXES of oranges my dance teacher brought on the bus.. Never been so sick of oranges in my life...

When we went through in Nov they were closed

We've never had a problem with sealed up stuff like that (honestly, I'm not even sure we've usually remembered to mention it), but any open type of produce is subject to confiscation. However, even if the checks are closed, please just don't bring produce in. I know it looks fine, but you just don't know what's hiding in there, and when you toss that orange peel or apple core away, it can be the start of a real problem. I've lived in CA all my life and gone through too many periods of quarantine, overhead spraying, traps in trees, etc. to take this lightly

Mobetsy, very good point. I sure didn't mean just because the check spots are closed that it is okay to bring things in. I just never got why it is okay to bring fruit into some states and not others.
