Hi All,

I've never gone swimming at Disney - actually I haven't been in a public pool in years. I know you're supposed to shower before you go in. Where are the showers, and do you have to wet your hair too? Just how long do people shower? I'm staying at PORFQ or riverside and am hoping to make my next trip more relaxing!

I think they have showers at the water parks, but I don't remember seeing showers at ASMu (that's the only resort I've stayed at so far).

I have seen showers at the resort pools. They're not obtrusive, but they're there. They tend to blend in pretty well, like the elephant shaped shower at BW. I haven't seen any signs requiring showers though, like I have at some hotels.

Personally, I prefer to wet my hair with regular water before getting in the pool so it doesn't absorb so much chlorine. I will often do this in the room before heading to the pool. Basically, you just are rinsing off any sand or excess suntan oils to help keep the pool clean. It's also not a bad idea to shower again when you get out, again, to get rid of excess chlorine.

I know at Riverside, there is a structure that looks like a wooden water tower right nest to the pool. The shower is under it. It's also right next to the hot tub.

I suggest you google "showering before entering public pools" and see what comes up. Then make your own decision about if you want to do that and if you do, when and where you do it.

I was just at OKW and they had showers by the main pool (didn't get to the others). We went in without showering first and it seemed a lot of other people did too. We didn't even see the sign that said "Please shower before entering" until we were leaving. No flames please, just making the point that there doesn't seem to be any pool police making people shower first.

We go to a private pool in the summer near our house. As a rule we don't shower before we enter the pool. We have all bathed the night before or that morning and don't think it is necessary. There is so much cholrine in those pools that if you are basically clean it isn't an issue.

Yes, there are showers at the resort pools. The idea is to rinse off any excess suntan stuff. I heard the suntan lotion/oil affects the chlorine?

I always rinse my hair at the pool shower to prevent it soaking up the chlorine, not good for blonds! Or I put my hair up, and not get it wet.

There are showers at both the pools at the Polynesian. Unfortunately they are ususally pretty cold. We use them but I am not sure how much good it does since we can't stand to stay under the cold water for more than a few seconds. Admittedly it is more for show.

We were told Disney is not using chlorine but bromides. Here is a site that talks about it. http://www.chemfreeaqua.com/pools.htm From our experiences-observations it can cause burning of eyes too; at least with some guest.

As far as the showering, it is approached like most Disney policies...their not enforced by CMs unless it becomes an issue where their forced to enforce.

Actually my company does the automated chemical systems for the WDW Resort pools and I know 100% for sure they are chlorine.

As far as showering before entering (from the chemical standpoint), its easier on the water. Chemical systems can only dispense a certain amount of chlorine and ph control in a certain amount of time. Especially during peak times, heavy bather loads can stretch the capability. If everyone showers ahead of time to remove contaminents it makes it easier for the system to keep up. Also any large contaminents that must be filtered restrict flow as they build up, hence less maintenance on the filters.

Lotions arent as big as a deal in my opinion because most are water based. Oils are more of a problem. Any leftover soaps and haircare products on the body affect the water chemistry much more.

I'm sure others have differing opinions on this subject, and that is ok. This is my perspective coming from someone who works on hotel/motel pool and spas as part of my job.

When it comes down to it, do what makes you feel comfortable! (unless they start up the Shower Police! :thumbsup2)

All the resorts have pool showers. All star music had such a great shower tore my disabled daughter. What a great resort.
