Silly post about doing the laundry

My mother has always done laundry every time we go to the parks! Well on the cruise, sometimes you want to do the laundry if something is dirty, you did not pack enough clothes or just to go home without having it to do. Well here is a tip:

Instead of packing coins that are heavy for the laundry or powder detergent etc. Bring the purell sheets!!! So easy to pack in a zip-lock bag, light to carry and great for cleaning! Again if you find that you brought too many, give them to your stateroom host/ess as they have laundry to do of their personal items and this will help them save more money! In addition bring a few dryer sheets and hang them inside your cabin closet to keep your clothing smelling fresh and clean!

Magical Sailings!

Just so you know, the Magic (not sure about the Wonder) has switched to HE machines and the machines as well as detergent dispensers now take your KTTW card.

I've also read a lot of reports of staining and machine damage with front-loading machines and Purell sheets. We purchased and used some in the top loading machines at DVC resorts and they worked fine, but I don't think I'll risk them again - or in a front-loader.

We'll be on 2 5-night B2Bs and plan to do laundry, and I think we'll go with super concentrated liquid or powder. Maybe if Tide has some packets or something, we can pack those... Hmm.

Oh great.
Guess my little tide pkts aren't going to work... do they make HE in ind. packets now? that's what we use at home for our front loading machines but I like the little single wash packets for on the longer cruises (like our next one is 14nt). Sigh

I miss those laundry tablets that used to be sold....they were so convenient, though that was before HE machines. I also like the Tide packets...I have one upstairs and will have to look to see if it is HE or not. I usually go to a local laundromat and buy some single use boxes from the vending machine there.....I have been onboard before where they had run out of detergent.

In a recent thread, someone reported no problems with using the purex sheets in the DCL front loaders. I wonder if the reports of problems predate the new machines.

ETA: The Purex website states that the laundry sheets are usable in HE machines.

.

I have used the Purex sheets here at home in my front load HE washer with no problems. I put the sheet in first then the clothes on top. I will use them on our beach vacation this year and DCL next year.

May I ask what HE stands for? We don't use that acronym over here (we haven't had toploading washing machines for decades as standard) so I'm not sure if this would affect me?

TIA :thumbsup2

So, dumb question here... can you not use regular Tide (liquid or solid or power) in an HE machine? :confused3

Ok....just checked my individual tide packet and it is not HE.

I to was very excited to find these! When I posted here, there were a lot of post talking about the staining/ spotting. I have been using them at home in my own front loader on different settings Cold, Warm etc. I am happy to report I have not experienced any problems. I am looking forward to using them on our next cruise. Enjoy :laundy:

When we had a repair person come out to look at our HE washer, he mentioned that I could use regular detergent, BUT so, so much less of it. He said like 1/4 or less of the detergent that you would use for a top loading machine.

When you first switch from a top loading machine to a front loading machine, the clothing takes a lot longer to clean. The machine runs through pretty much until the suds are out of the clothing. There is leftover soap coming out of your clothing that washed in a top loading machine.

I have never had any problems with those sheets and I used them on the cruise ships, and most disney resorts. But to each their own. Just thought I would post that it makes things lighter when traveling.

You can always do laundry services as well. But like MMouse37 has said I too have been on the ship when they have run out and have no more on the ship and had to buy while at port.

so if we were to take our own detergent from the UK which would it be? I don't get it?!

What is the brand they sell on the ships?

That's the funny part. They put in HE machines but still sell reg detergent in the dispensers. I brought some Tide powder and packets with the intention of using them 'just in case' but when I saw no HE detergent being sold, I used what I brought.

They had Tide in September. HE machines use 1/4 to 1/3 of the detergent that you would use in a non HE machine.

When I was doing wash in September someone used a full box of the Tide that is sold on board. They had to wash 3 additional times and then finally gave up. The next person to use the machine had HE detergent and still had too much suds. She got one of the SRH's, who basically paid for her to wash again - and they added fabric softner. That killed the suds.
