Hello! I'm new over here to the Disneyland boards (I'm a WDW vet, so I mostly hang out over there). I just have a simple question but can't seem to find the answer.

I'm going to Disneyland for the first time in three months!! Sorry, I had to! The plans aren't definite yet, but they're very close. I'll be visiting a best friend who is a native Californian, and staying with her in Anaheim. As part of the whole "expedition to California," I've worked in a Disneyland trip since she knows how crazy about it I am. The planning is in its baby stages but since I'll be staying at her home, it's really more of how to tour. But...that's not what I'm here to ask!

How is the weather there around Dec 26th - January 9th? I'm not sure what days exactly we'll be going. I have no idea how to dress for Southern California in the winter! I know from going to WDW in January it can get cool at night, but I want to be prepared. I hope it doesn't seem silly I'm asking so far in advance. These next three months are jam-packed for me with my final semester of classes in college, and I am just trying to get the basic things squared away.

Thanks for any advice! :flower3:

OK - don't laugh....

But the Farmers Almanac predicts :

Dec - 21-26 : Rain north, a few sprinkles south ; cool. 27-31 : Rain and t-storms, mild north; some sun, then showers, cool south. Avg Temp 54.

Jan - 1-3 : Sunny, cool. 4-8 : Scatered showers. 9-11 : Sunny, warm. Avg Temp 53

compared to Philly - dress for mid-fall - jeans, sweater or sweatshirt with long sleeved shirt under (for layering). Maybe a light windbreaker for night and a hood, scarf or hat. If you look on the Christmas time thread you will see pictures of people in the park and can see what they are wearing.

You will find it mild, but not hot.

Have a wonderful trip!

I was born and lived in SoCal for 28 years and if it was me I would:

o Bring shorts and tee shirts - may be able to wear them during the day
o Bring long pants for evening
o Bring sweater for evenings
o Probably will not rain (it never rains in California ;)) but I would be prepared for that too

Further, I would get a walking distance hotel where I could easily change clothes. Lacking that I would bring warmer clothes in a bag and store them in a locker at DLR to change when it gets dark. Or I would just wear long pants and tie a sweater around my waist and go with that all day.

HTH :goodvibes

This past January and the January before it dropped down to the 40's at night and with the wind blowing (and, yes, it rained as well in 2008 every night of my trip) it felt a lot colder than that to me. We had gloves which do not help when they are soaked, and ditto that for enclosed shoes as well. It was so cold in 2008 with the wind and rain that I made my DH take me to buy enclosed shoes. (I normally wear flip flops.) So I think it would be best to be prepared for anything and rent a locker if you aren't staying nearby to store warmer clothes for when night falls. The days are usually fine, it once night falls that it quickly becomes much colder and you will need long pants and a jacket or sweater or two. In 2008, I remember one night I had on jeans, a long sleeved shirt, 2 sweaters and a leather jacket over it, and I was still cold with all that wind & rain. ETA: I also had a poncho on over all that, but the poncho is useless when it's raining that much. Once your jeans get wet (which mine did) from where the poncho ends, that's it. You're going to be cold. My jeans were soaked from mid calf down. On the plus side, all the rides were walk ons!

Thanks for all the wonderful and quick advice! Between my hot winter trips to WDW and notions of SoCal as always hot and sunny, I'd definitely have packed the bare minimum of summer clothes and regretted it. Thankfully my friend lives about 10-15 mins away and is my size so I could change if need be.

Further, I would get a walking d...cker it is! Thank you all again, so much!!
