Silly ? How do the resorts keep out gators?

I just went through a few photoCDs and Videos ( Thanks I haven't done that in a while and they brought back some great memories).

Anyhow I thought I had a wider shot but I do not. This is in MK right in across from the shooting gallery . Someone was feeding it Turkey Legs . They are from June of 03.

BUFORD :)

That's what the cast member called him :) We saw him several times, though always at night. One night they had the state animal control with them.

Don't be scared!

Come on, if you were an alligator, wouldn't you wanna live at Disney, too? :goodvibes ;)

We have seen gators quite a few times at WDW. Most recently was last October at the BC. He (or I guess maybe she) hung out at the bridge by the BCV.

People were throwing he/she food (which I believe is a big no-no with alligators). Anyway here are some pictures:

They have gator-trappers, and a series of dams - my husband asked one time when he was there on business, and someone from Disney Wildlife...(control or resource management or something) came to his room. And one time we saw a cat on the beach at the Polynesian.

I have never seen a gator while visiting WDW but the last time we were there, we took our nephew and all he kept saying was... "I know their are alligators here." "There is no way they can keep them out." He wanted so badly to see a gator. He told us that when he was there last year that he had several cast members tell him that there were some in the lakes in the park and around the resorts.

I e-mailed him the link to this thread so that he could see his gators at WDW.:goodvibes

One time we saw a cat on the beach at the Polynesian, which was pretty cool.

while doing the parasailing at CR our boat drive spotted one- but I did not personally see it.
I was reading in the UG that if you take the RR at Magic Kingdom all the way around and keep a close eye out you will see Disney fake gators, and every now and then a real one swims up the canal, hauls itself out of the water to threaten and beat up the newbies- thus there is lots of repainted and repair work on those fake gators.

I haven't seen a gator on WDW property in years! But I do see those litle lizards every time! Last trip we stayed at CSR, and I actually had one in my bed!!:scared1: It startled me at first, but once I saw what it was I gathered him up and put him out side, I watched him clime up the side of the hotel and he even stopped for a minute to allow me to capture a photo!! It was very funny and a Disney memory We'll never forget!

DD liked these so much from our very first trip we have had 1 or 2 as pets for the past 4 or 5 years. I think she will now move up to a different Lizard that they have all died off.

My friend saw an alligator once at CBR when she was taking a walk very very early in the morning. She asked a maintenance person she ran into and he said it was pretty common, if you are out that early in the mornign, to see one. That being said, I've often walked around CBR between 6 and 6:30 heading to the foodcourt, and I've never seen one.

I told my daughter and husband last night about the gators, my daughter came out (she's 14.5) gotta add that half..wait till she turns 40 she wont be doing that. And told us do NOT expect me to swim in anything at disney unless its a pool.

We are staying at the Poly and I was looking at the lake and I thought about the gators and how does Disney keep them out?

They don't have to. Gators is "good eatin' "...

At WDW, you're not allowed to swim in the waterways, so no problems with your daughter.

We've seen gators from the buses as we go to the parks - they like the water in the ditches for some reason? I always try to discourage posters who think of walking from a resort to a park, unless it's an EPCOT-attached resort.

We have a ton of wildlife here in NE Massachusetts - our town has had problems with coyotes, moose and bears.

we live in the country in quebec, have just under 600 acres. So the kids see wildlife all the time. We have deer, bears, wolves, coyotes, bunnies, wild turkeys, partridge, moose. It would be kind of cool to see an alligator.

How do they get rid of 'em? They feed 'em to the tourists!

(Or maybe the other way around. I forget.)

Theres one that tends to hang around Blizzard Beah all the time, if you look closely next time your there, you can probably find him. I think he hands out ski equipment, heres a rare photo I shot:

:lmao: :cool1: The last time we stayed at the Beach club villas there was a gator in the stream by the quiet pool. He was quite an attraction. Every day you could seem him sunning himself on side of the rocks. Kids got a kick out of it.

"His" name is Susie and she's supposedly well fed. A CM told us that if she gets to be too large she'll be relocated. There are grates to keep the big gators from swimming into the guest areas, but the little ones can get through and when they grow to be over 4 ft. they're captured and relocated.

Alligators are all over central Florida and you just need to be mindful of that when you're in FL. Take note of the retention ponds at the interchanges along World Drive -- if you look closely you'll see that some of the logs floating in the water aren't really logs.

Legend has it that in the MK around Tom Sawyer's Island there are no canoe rides like they have at Disneyland because of the presence of gators in the Florida park lake.
