We are staying at the Poly and I was looking at the lake and I thought about the gators and how does Disney keep them out?

They don't! They are in there. If they get too "friendly" they will relocate them but pretty much they keep to themselves.

as stated there is truly no way to keep them out; if they become aggressive or too large they move them.

As long as humans do not feed them, they will stay to themselves.

That is what I thought. I read on some boards that some families prefer the
1st floor rooms of the Poly so they can come and go more freely to the beach or just "watch" their kids from their patio. I wouldn't be comfortable doing that with gators around.

They throw them a disgruntled guest a day. Solves two problems. ;)

Heh - except alligators don't eat meat every day.

Actually, Disney World property is a big nature area. We've seen wild turkey and live armadillos roaming around on World Drive. We've helped a turtle cross over the Hess gas station near the Boardwalk to get to the grassy area. Fort Wilderness has all kinds of animals.

Disney World's "wild" (because they are somewhat accustomed to humans) animals is one of the reasons we enjoy Disney World so much.

Now I'm sure there are many, many, many people who love to see some sort of net to keep out those love bugs.

I'm not doubting that gators can be found on Disney property but I've never seen one. And we've been vacationing there every Summer since 1998. Sporadically before then.

Texas must be a "big" nature area.....We have wild turkeys, hogs, deer, armadillos, gators, tons of Luv Bugs and I just helped a turtle get to the ditch at our local Kroger.....I think he even smiled at me for helping him!!!!
In Houston yesterday we had a 9 ft gator in a suburbian pond at the entrance to a subdivision......Now thats wild!!!!!

I can dig up some pics of one right at the docks in MK from a few years ago. Then last trip we saw one sitting on the side of the road going to AK a few days in a row. Back in the back of WWoS while playing Paintball we a few in a pond back there.

So yes they are around as well as many different types of snakes as well.

:lmao: :cool1: I've seen some the gators would throw back. The last time we stayed at the Beach club villas there was a gator in the stream by the quiet pool. He was quite an attraction. Every day you could seem him sunning himself on side of the rocks. Kids got a kick out of it.

I live in a city of about 80,000 in Canada and we had a moose in the high school parking lot about 2 weeks ago.. and then he worked his way downtown.. and was wandering about the main shopping area..

I've seen a gator at Disney. It was small.. or so I thought.. but it was definitely a gator.

When I was a kid there was a 7 ft. Gator in the lake near the DTD hotels (of course it wasn't DTD) then.

A CM at the Polynesian told me that the boats you sea on Seven Seas Lagoon late at night with just the red and green running lights on are looking for gators to remove / relocate.:scared1:

There is a gator living in the swampy area behind Memories. There is a little drive that goes that way. It is next to the sidewalk you take to go to the bus stop. He isn't real big. Often you can see him sunning himself in the late afternoon. Most guests don't go back in that area. I had a CM tell me about the gator. Pretty cute!

For those who have not seen them while vacationing at WDW, don't feel bad. I've lived in Florida for over three years now. I've only seen a couple of them in the wild.

We have had sooo much rain here in NW Louisiana lately. As a result, they have been rounding up gators right and left around here. Just caught two of them last week in this area.

I'm not sure exactly where but, my parents saw one in the Magic Kingdom somewhere around Frontierland. They told me but I can't remember. I think it was across from where Country Bears are, there is some wooden bridges and they said it was down in the water.

now that i know there are gators around.. looking at POP Century where we are staying I see a lake there too.. have any been sited there?

We saw a fairly large gator in the lake at CSR. He (she?) was near the bridge.

I hate to say it, but I was on the launch from the Poly in June and we saw a gator.

We mentioned it to our fishing guide and he said there are several in the 7 Seas Lagoon/Bay Lake, and are very difficult to catch.

I've also see a few in the MK back near Splash Mountain. But, they were desperately trying to catch them. I suspect they suceeded since I haven't seen one in a few years.
