Silly Coupon Question

I have a coupon question that may sound a liitle weird, but i figured if anyone would know it would be the people on this board.

Are the coupons in the Sunday paper in more expensive areas (New York City, California) worth more than in lower cost living states? Like in NY is a coupon $1.00 off yogurt when it might only be .50 off somewhere else? Just curious becuase my wife is a flight attendant and a friend of hers thinks the coupons are better in the NE and CA than her local paper in Dallas. If so, then it might be worth my wife to pick up a paper in those areas when she's flying through them and bring them back here. Thanks in advance.

I do know that the amounts do vary depending on where you live. We live 20 mins North of Baltimore. MIL lives in Delaware (just 3 hours away) and gives me her "leftover" coupons (which is pretty much the entire pack) and I have seen a difference in the amounts. And sometimes the coupon for the Dannon yogurt may be on the second page for 50 cents off of 6 in my pack from MD, and the same coupon may be on the fifth page for 75 cents off of 6 in the pack from DE. I never really paid that much attention to which state is better since the differences were very little. Plus, they are free from her - so it wouldn't make much difference to me.

Yep - we get the Washington Post and the Baltimore Sun and the coupon amounts are often different. And we do the Grocery Game and a lot of times their lists will be for a coupon with one face value (like .50 off) and in our paper, it will be $1.00 off on 2. And for $1.00 off on 2 -- the stores won't double them like they will for $.50. I find that frustrating but they are different.

Basically, the bigger papers from larger cities have both more coupons & higher value coupons. We get the local county paper for free and the only inserts that are ever the same as the Atlanta Journal Constitution are the Proctor & Gamble ones; the RedPlum & SmartSource inserts vary tremendously with many coupons not included in the county paper and/or much lower values. We do get lots of "regional" coupons (i.e. local grocery stores & Target) in the smaller paper. One thing to keep in mind is that higher is not always better if your stores double; our Kroger & Publix stores double face value up to 50 cents every day, so a 50 cent coupon is worth more to me than a 75 cent one!

Ours tends to be opposite, I got papers from our area and State College, about an hour away. I found that the ones in the St. Col. area were smaller, and it so happens that one store up there doubles $1 coupons. Down here they don't and I'd get $1 coupons in our local paper and the same ones in the St. Col. paper were .50.

When I used to vacation in NC, the coupons in the Charlotte newspaper were larger values than those in my NYC area papers

I couldn't say I've never compared them. You could always buy your local paper and then the one from whatever bigger city is close to you and do your own comparison.
