Silly concern...someone comfort me!

I have a silly concern! We will be on the dining plan, our first time to WDW in June. I am concerned that it will feel wrong or strange to have an expensive meal and just walk out without paying or handing over a "live" tip!

Is there anyone else who felt that they'd feel weird about this...then got there and it was fine? I feel like I will go up and get four Mickey Bars and slink away after not paying feeling like I stole them!

Considering you have to give them your room key to do it...just think of it as paying by credit card.

I'm trying to remember if you even have to sign for it. (I was on the Premium plan but I seem to recall having to sign it, therefore it really DID feel like we were using a credit card.)

Don't worry about it. I understand that the servers get 18%, and most every server I had was thrilled to recommend the more expensive items due to that.

Knowing they get 18%, if you feel they deserve 20%, leave a little more. Otherwise, there is no expectation on anyone's part that you should leave more.

PS. As the other poster said, you do have to sign your receipt which the restaurant keeps. Your copy shows the number of TS credits you have left.

yeah, just use it like a credit card....a pre paid one!!

we were there in december, and you do have to sign, but at almost every ts meal the waiter/waitress handed the reciept to my 6 yo dd and said "here princess, you are buying dinner tonight and i need your signature"! she loved that she was so important to have to sign it.....but the princess word mad her mad! she is such a tom boy!

That is hilarious! That never happened to us - my daughter would have gotten a kick out of that, of course my DD is older and who knows what my boys would have done. Awww...the unexpected extra touches.

Don't be silly, you paid for it already! And as a previous poster mentioned, the servers have their tips already figured in to the price of the meal. If you want, you can leave them a little extra. I went during the free dining last year, and this didn't bother me a bit. Also, remember how many people that are served in Disney each day this same way. So many people are on the dining plan that you won't be the only one walking out without paying!

I think I'm going to feel weird, too. You're not alone!! But I love the fact that it's already paid for. It will be so nice to not have to worry about the cost of each menu item, etc.

Nope, not going to feel weird at all. to me, it is just like going to an all-inclusive resort or cruise where you have already pre-paid for everything.

BTW, you won't slink away with the four ice cream bars either. You stand there, the CM scans your card and gives you a receipt.....important, the receipts they give you tell you how many credits you used and how many you have left. It's important to keep track during every transaction.

We used to get the meal vouchers back when you could buy them from Hotwire Savings Club. The Vacation Kingdom Lunch vouchers were similar to the TS credits (included appetizer, entrée, dessert, beverage, tax & tip). We had a party of 8 at LTT (6 adults & 2 kids). Using 6 vouchers, we paid for all but $11 worth of the food. (I still can't figure out how it was so little since we all ordered entrées and beverages) It did feel strange just signing those vouchers and adding the extra amount to the bill. We did leave a larger tip for the waitress because she was so great about bringing extra plates so that we could share the appetizers and desserts.

So if I pay for a portion of the meal OPP, it will say that on the receipt and I just put cash along with the card to pay? The only thing I can think of that we will be doing this way is the glowing ice cube drink at Sci-Fi...my girls are really looking forward to those!

When you pay OOP and use the DDP you will get TWO receipts. One will be the DDP one that you review and sign. The other one will be the OOP one, which will not include the gratituty (unless you are a party of 8 or more). If you are using your card for charges too, then the CM will take your card again and do a charge on it. Just don't forget that the tip is usually NOT on the OOP bill (you must check).

Can you write in a tip (or an additional tip for the DDP portion) on the OOP receipt?
