Renting points for a week long stay at Kidani. Husband & I were looking at additional housekeeping fees & considering what we might or might not need. We're pretty tidy so I don't think it's a real necessity. We can make up beds. Hang/wash towels. But this did get me thinking about the garbage situation. We'd need to empty trash daily. If housekeeping doesn't come every day & say we bag up our own trash, where do we take it? Is there a pickup point? Outside the door? I don't think I've ever seen guests making a dumpster run but we could do that if need be. And do they leave extra garbage bags?

Not a silly question, we drop our trash off when leaving the room for the day. If you need extra bags, call housekeeping.

Outside the door?
Pet Peeve Alert!!!!

Who in their right mind thinks its acceptable to put a festering bag of trash in a hallway for everybody else to smell? Doing this should be immediate grounds for eviction, on par with building a meth manufacturing lab in a unit.

The fact that you asked if this was acceptable already indicates that you are infinitely more intelligent than the morons who do so. And you'll see these morons. At least they are giving us a clear indicator of their stupidity and self-centered-ness, so we can do our best to avoid them.

Like I said, a pet peeve, after many years of living in multi-family dwellings.

I have the same aversion to people leaving their room service trays in the hallway. I went to one hotel in Canada years ago and they had a great process. Once you were finished eating, you called a number and someone was up to retrieve your tray within 15 minutes. So much better than seeing someone's leftovers in the hall until housekeeping picks it up.

Now see? We were discussing this last night and I offered to ask on Dis. Otherwise we were going to ask at check-in. I don't want to get this wrong & im sure there's a procedure.

Lived in apartments for many years. Definitely over other people's laziness & disregard for the very place we all have to live in. People amaze me with the level of inconsideration.

FWIW I'm pretty sure that's the procedure just about everywhere, but no one actually calls.

On our last cruise dh was setting the tray outside and I asked if he had phoned. Nope. Ugh. And he had been complaining about the trays in the hall! So we phoned and it was picked up.

I've been told by several room service people to leave the tray outside in the hallway with a napkin covering it. I was told this at Kidani and BLT.

Certainly not a stupid question. I was wondering the same thing during my last trip. Luckily, there was a sign near the elevator pointing towards trash room (similar to sign you see for vending/ice room).

I was fully planning on having to take the trash outside somewhere, so I was pleasantly surprised that the trash rooms are on each floor.

The problem at Disney is that stuff will sit in the halls even when you do call. We have seen trash bags, dirty laundry, food trays sit for days and you know that CM's have been by. Once at SSR there was a dirty laundry bag left outside our door from when housekeeping cleaned the room. It was there for a couple of days so we called. A couple more days went by before the bag was removed. Poor management IMO.

I've seen things sit for days too and it is frustrating. I know darn well CM's are walking by all the time and ignoring it.

That, said, our trays have disappeared by the next trip back to the room. If it hadn't, I would have brought it in and washed everything myself.

Here now, KBC on Maui, ( RCI trade) told to bag garbage, leave outside door, call housekeeping. That's what we were told to do, and it's worked!

Oh I agree here... room service is just that. They should pick up your tray, and if not, it's a poor reflection on them.

On a side note, I always cover my tray with the napkin. I'm happy they said that.
It's truly a much classier way to do it.

The problem comes when you put the tray out after the last pick up for the day, then it stays there until they return the next evening.

The original poster was just asking a question. Clearly they are not a DVC member and thus don't know that there is a room for trash and recycling. Now they do.
No, I'm not a DVC member but I do want to be a good guest. :-) The subsequent conversation was also insightful. I've never ordered room service in a hotel or resort but I have on many a cruise. :sail:

It is perfectly acceptable to leave a covered tray outside your door. "Covered" is the key word. Just put your napkin over it.
Some places request you call to have your tray removed.
