I will be staying at AKL in May with my 2 year old. We have a savannah view, so I figured we would be spending a lot of time on the balcony. Are the slats close enough together to not worry about him falling thru? I will be with him at all times, but I'd prefer not to worry so much. lol He's average size and from pictures, the slats look pretty close together, preventing him from actually falling threw if he fell or something. I know it's a silly question, but I"m quite the paranoid mother. :D :D :D

They are close enough to keep the average child from falling through or off--Disney thinks of these things :)

Of course if he were to drag a chair over to the rail and climb on top of it, he could still fall, so you'll have to keep a special eye if he's a climber.

All disney construction is done to met or exceed the National Life-Safety codes....so railing gaps are 4" or less....you should be fine! :)

No problem at AKL, but the Polynesian scared me a bit. The building codes were different then. As long as I have a toddler around, I'll stick to the newer hotels, I think.

Hey gillian,

we're staying at the polynesian in May. I'm requesting Tahiti, I believe that's one of the newer buildings. Maybe I'll stick to ground floor request.

On our trip in Nov. our DD was 2. I didn't worry about her falling through the rails but she did always seem to be pulling the chairs and table to the rails and stand up on them. So when you hear a loud screeching noise you'll know he's pulling the chair to stand on it. The chairs and tables are VERY light weight so they are very easy for the little ones to move around. I'm happy to say we had a carefree trip! You could even bring the chairs and table into the room!

Lizzie64, we were in Tokelau, which was built after the resort opened but earlier than Tahiti. I don't know if DS could have fit through the railings at all. We didn't give him much of a chance to try!
