signs you're at a bad motel....

The door to the bathroom won't close because the bed is in the way. - Motel 6, Vista, CA.

You hit the bed with the front door because the room is too small to hold both a swinging door and a bed. - Best Western, Anaheim, CA (The one on Harbor, just up from the gates, not as far as the Anaheim Plaza)

You wear socks in the shower. - That crappy hotel we paid $186/nt for in Solvang because we didn't feel like driving home and it was the ONLY hotel with a room left in all of Solvang and Buelton.

When you go to lay on one side of the bed and meet the other person in the middle because the mattress is caved in the middle and you've both rolled there and the sheets are oddly starchy/sticky feeling in a few areas.. :scared1:

When you go down to try out the pool and see green algae inside it-everywhere. (indoor pool) There is no alarm clock, but the phone and remote are bolted to the bedside table. The soap in the bathroom has already been used, but put back into the wrapper. Half full lotion, shampoo, and conditioner sample bottles, and a nice moldy, scummy shower.

All of the above were at a Days Inn in Winslow Arizona.

When the call room I used in residency was cleaner and more luxurious than the room I stayed at in Chatanooga, TN. The call room was originally a storage closet in the radiology department. The mattress and pillows were the usual hospital issue, wrapped in heavy plastic, with cheap sheets and thin cotton blankets.

When the other people staying at the hotel scare you--more than one of the motels along 192 in Orlando, including a Days Inn not far from the access road to AKL.

When you enter the motel room and the walls are covered in naked paintings of Belle Star and other Western young ladies. My poor mother was mortified; she took the bedspreads and hung them on the pictures. Unfortunately it was the ONLY available room in Portland, Oregon during Rose Festival so we stayed there all night. Needless to say, we headed out at dawn. :rotfl:

1. you can't park under the covered area in front of the lobby because someone is changing their oil

2. there are people sitting in the back of their pickups drinking in the parking lot

3. the entire hotel has a water line one the wall from the hurricane the previous year

4. the 'waterfront' view consists of a puddle by the front door

5. when you open the door to your room, the floor is covered with ceiling tiles, the toilet has been used and not flushed so long ago that the water is green and there is fuzzy mold growing out of the coffee pot.

6. the fire alarm goes off for 15 minutes at 6am in the morning. no one panicked or left the building, we finally figured out it was a mass wakeup call for the transients living there.

All at the same hotel in Mobile, AL

The front desk asks if you would prefer the hourly or nightly rate.:eek:

Needless to say, we didn't stay there. :rotfl:

You are in the middle of nowhere WV (I think) in the late 80's driving from NY to NC on some 2 lane road looking for a place to stay between 10 & 11 o'clock when you finally come across a place. You pull up to it and these two old guys are sitting out front but they are a little scary looking. You look over at the barley visible, burnt out sign that reads "Bates Motel". That is when I told my mom & I agreed it didn't matter how tired we all were we were driving until we found a chain hotel!

When we turned around and pulled back onto the road they started yelling at us to stay and running after us. HECK no! They scared me!

When you turn on the light at it explodes and embers fall onto your bed--then the power is out the rest of the night (happened to my parents this weekend)
