I am in need of opinions...

About two months ago, my DH's cousin got married. They are from North Carolina, and the wedding was here in their hometown in Michigan. They had flown up for the wedding. Our wedding present to them was basically a card that said "A special surprise is in the works for you!".

We had arranged with their photographer to be emailed 4 different prints from their wedding, two of their first dance (they took dance lessons and made the biggest deal about their first dance ), and two of the ceremony (my DH officiated). Our plan was to purchase picture frames, and in between the photographs, put a fancy copy of the first dance song lyrics, and their vows.

Well, we received the pictures last week, and we have finished the project as of last night and they are just beautiful.

We just found out that they happen to be coming up to MI for an unplanned visit this weekend. I believe that they are flying in. We have worked very hard on their presents, and while we were planning on sending them UPS to them, it would be so much nicer to see their reaction as they open their presents. The only problem would be that they may not have room in their luggage for two (18x24) frames.

Here are my thoughts, tell me what you think.

They are staying with their parents, so if we hand deliver their presents, they can decide if they like them enough to make room in their luggage and take them home with them today, or whether they want to leave them with their parents until they take a car ride here again.

What would you do? Send them UPS or opt for the more personal, hand delivery?

I would do both. Show the gift to them while there are here and then tell them that you are sending them to their home.

I agree- let them open it here and then say "I'm sending it to you" So you can see the reaction. Nice gift!!

Thats my thoughts! :goodvibes
Sooo awesome!
Show them the work and tell them you will ship them home for them :)

Take a pic of it !!!! I wanna see! :upsidedow

Absolutely show it to them and tell them that you are sending it to their home. Handing it to them and expecting them to figure out how to get it home wouldn't be right.

It sounds like a gift with a lot of thought, I bet they love it.

Agree. Give them the gift in person and then UPS them to their home. Nice gift by the way!!!!

I would definitely hand deliver...then you get to see them open them! Let them decide whether they want to trust UPS or wait till they visit by car.

Yes, do as the previous posters suggest!!!!

I do have a similar personal experience, and a word of caution though...

I hosted an event, with several families and a person of honor...
We put together a wonderful framed photo collage thing....

Well, I was so busy and preoccupied, etc... that I forgot to make sure to snarf up the large frame, and tell the person of honor that we would ship it to them. They took it to their room. And, the next morning they took it to a close-by UPS store and pack-n-shipped it back home...

1. The cost was UNBELIEVABLY high. (which I reimbursed, of course)
2. Even with their 'guarantee' the glass in the frame was, of course broken... I have heard many tales of similar breakage.

Make sure to take these to the USPS or other places... Get the best price... Have the box/packaging and labels ready to go, etc... If the frames did not come with a box, I might even WRAP it in the packing box (just unsealed).

I am sure they will LOVE the gift!!!!! :goodvibes

I agree with all of the above, but I just wanted to say "hi" from a former Michigander. My DSIL and her family live in Novi, and the other one lives in Northville!

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the tip! See, now this is why I am afraid. I almost want to put it in a box and PAY for it to be sent home on the plane with them... I think it would get better treatment that way!

No advice, but that is a lovely thought for a gift. I would've LOVED a wedding gift like that - so inventive/creative/cool! :)
