Never been to one in wdw-

Are they supremely special?!

Dh would like to try Hollywood Brown Darby-is it 'worth' 2 ts credits or pay oop?

For a party of 3 adults-where would you recommend?

I use the menus to decide. If the 2TS restaurant would cost close to twice what a 1TS restaurant would cost me, then I'll use the TS credits at the 2TS restaurant. That is one reason why we don't do dining plans anymore. We don't consider any of the 2TS restaurants worth twice the 1TS restaurants we'd eat at instead, yet we still want to enjoy those experiences.

Personally I love California Grill. The food is great, the atmosphere is awesome, and the experience is top notch!! My family of 4 went 2 years ago, and we are doing that again the week of Thanksgiving. I love having a later dinner there, in order to be able to see the Wishes show from the top of the Contemporary. We were lucky to have a table next to the window, and the music is piped in. We did venture out to the observation deck outside. We dressed up a bit, just for fun. It was a great experience, and one of my favorite things to do now. The dinner just felt very special.

They are a cut above the ordinary WDW spots--but not supremely "special" compared to good restaurants at home.

Cant help with he DDP business as we never do it.

As for a recommendation--what sort of food do you like??

I'm a rather selective devil-however it would be more to cater for dmil & dh-

They are big carnivores-lamb,chicken,turkey,steak & love desserts.

We ate lunch at Brown Derby last trip for the Fantasmic dining package. Liked it a lot. California Grill with a view of wishes is great.

The signature restaurants at the resorts tend to be better than the ones in the parks. Very few are worth two credits. Heck, very few restaurants at Disney are worth one credit.

As for Hollywood Brown Derby; we try to get in there each time we go just for the chopped Cobb salad.

Signature is in the eye of the beholder.

Disney Signatures, with the exception of Victoria & Albert, are not always something supremely special.

California Grill, because of it's view and the possibility of a great meal may be the one Signature (besides V&A) that offers a 'wow factor'. But for the price, not every meal is so consistent, and where you are seated contributes the either a 'wow' or 'bust'. The possibility of being there for fireworks can make the price of admission worth it. However, if I knew I wanted to use 2-credits, this would be one of those places to do it.

If planning to eat lobster and/or steak (and try to watch fireworks), Narcoossee's may also be good use of 2-credits. But most of the Signatures, the math does not typically work.

I also like to point out to folks that many of the patrons at any given meal will be in Park attire and un-showered after a day of enjoyment. Now, add a high percentage of children to the mix.

So of all the places you could have selected - Brown Derby is inside of a Park and punctuates my less-than-Signature picture. However, the Fantasmic! package gets you a 3-course meal, instead of the typical 2-courses on DDP, and you also get access to some of the best seats for the show. Using 2-credits for Fantasmic! package may be worth 2-credits.

We try to eat at BD every time we go to WDW. Love the Cobb Salad and the cheese plate. Is it worth 2 dining credits, that's subjective. For us it was simply because we could never use all our credits anyway so why not. We don't do the dining plan any more, it just isn't worth the money for us and we prefer to eat what we want when we want. Sometimes all I want is an appy and a salad or I might just want a kids meal at a QS. Who knows what we are in the mood for on any given day.

For DDP Signatures as to steak--Yachtsman. As to seafood--Flying Fish.

OOP--steak Shulas, seafood Blue Zoo

We usually eat at one a trip. I personally like Narcoossee's the best. California Grill is also really good, but I haven't been since they renovated it. I will be eating there for Christmas this year. I also really enjoy eating at Artist Point. It may be the best salmon I have ever had.

I agree about the TS credits. We haven't used the DDP for years because it didn't save us any money. And we usually like to have a few signature meals each visit. We have opted for the F! Dining package several times, and really enjoy it, but I wouldn't call it one of the best Disney signatures.

Because we're more interested in the food, and having a comparatively quiet dinner, we steer clear of the restaurants that feature a fireworks view. And we dine late in an attempt to avoid a lot of young children (and the attendant noise). Of course quiet is all relative at WDW. We just focus on the menus, and select our restaurants based on what we want to eat. Our favorite resort signatures are Citricos, Jiko, Bluezoo, and Shulas (the last 2 are not on the DDP).

I love Hollywood Brown Derby, however, I would pay OOP instead of using dining plan.

Second/third/etc. everyone else who said if your husband is wanting to try Hollywood Brown Derby (which we loved!), then do the Fantasmic Dining Package. A great meal, AND a guaranteed good seat at Fantasmic without having to show up super early? That's worth 2 credits to me.
