Signature Dining with 12 Year Old Having a Kids Meal?

I will be in WDW in early January with my ds, who is 12. My parents (in a different room) are planning on purchasing the dining plan (RCY exchange for Boardwalk Villas, so don't need to purchase tickets)

We are planning one buffet (Cape May) and 2 signature meals (Artist Point and Yachtsman Steakhouse ) and a table service in EPCOT (currently Tutto Italia, but we may try and change it)

DS and I will not be on the dining plan. Will it be an issue for him to order off of the Kids Meal menu and pay the kids meal price? I know he pays the adult price for the buffet. I am thinking of the other places. Especially at the Signature restaurants, the kids meal is just more appropriate for him.

If it matters, ds isn't that big for his age (in other words, he looks like an 11 or 12 year old).

Does anyone know?

Thanks

Julia

I am looking forward to reading responses to this.

We will be in a similar situation to you later in the new year with my DS just not that interested in the adult menu, preferring the items on the kids menu (he is 10). I, like you, know he will pay adult price at the buffet restaurants but have been wondering about table and signature restaurants where he will want to order off the kids menu.

We have just got back from two weeks at Disneyland and he had no problem ordering off the kids menu at restaurants except once at Storytellers, he wanted to order off the menu but they would not let him have the kids menu and whilst I understand that in Disney's eyes he is an adult (at 10), his tastes are not that of an adult and he is still really a child! We did eat at storytellers a few times and all of the other times they did let him order the make your own pizza off the kids menu, it was only that one time that he couldn't.

So I will be interested to hear what it's like at WDW :goodvibes

Well, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I will be hoping someone has experience with this.

My oldest did this at California Grill last week. There was no problem. We were not on the dining plan though. I think that might make a difference.

My son didn't have any problem ordering from the kids menu at a few places this year - he was 10.5 on our last trip and no one questioned it when we asked for the kids menu. In fact, at 50s Prime Time they didn't bring him a kids menu and when we asked the server for one, he asked my son what he liked. DS said hot dogs, mac & cheese and french fries. And the server brought him exactly that! I didn't really pay attention to how we were charged for it.

Paying out of pocket, I don't think you will have many problems ordering from the kids menu.

as long as you are paying out of pocket- anyone can order off the kids menu. I have never heard it being an issue on here.

Thanks,
I am glad to know it's not an issue

That will be fine. Like you said, at buffetts he will have to pay adult price, but at al-la carte places, he can order off the kid's menu.

As long as you are not on a dining plan your child can order from the kids menu without any trouble.

My DS13 is very tiny. We go to signature dinners multiple times each trip, and each time he orders from the kids menu. If they don't give us a kids menu when they seat us we just ask for one.

I have heard that if an ADULT orders from the kids menu that they provide a larger portion and charge a higher price, but we have not encountered that. Like I said, DS is tiny.

I have read reports that a child 10 or over was allowed to order something off the kids' menu even if they were on the DDP...it's just that the family has to pay the adult price for any child 10 or over for the DDP.
