Back in October, just before my knee replacement surgery, I was shooting at the Rockford Speedway. I decided (bad decision) to shoot a low angle Victory Lane shot. As I went to stand, the knee gave out and I fell snapping the base off my hot shoe attached Sigma EF-530 DG Super flash. The base on the flash is plastic, which broke, however the camera was not damaged. I have heard a lot of con against plastic attachment points with flashes. In this case, it was a blessing because when I fell, it hit hard. Thanks to Pentax' build of the K-5, the camera was not damaged at all. The week previous while shooting Team Demolition Derby, the flash had taken a direct mud clod hit. The rear LCD somehow was damaged, in that only one side was visible. On December 30th, I sent the flash to the Sigma Repair Center in Ronkonkoma, NY (my local Sigma Repair Center does not fix flashes, but sends them to NY so I shortcutted the process and sent it directly). It arrived this morning at 9:43 a.m. At 1:50 p.m., I received an email with the repair estimate of $40 and $10 shipping costs. I completed the online order form and it is being repaired as we speak.

Over the years, I have heard the horror stories of camera repair to the point many are reluctant to send their equipment in for repair. I can only say that the service I receive from Sigma is exemplary. As those that know me know, my equipment does go in harms way. I take it where others just shudder and would never take their equipment. From time to time, my equipment is going to get damaged and to receive service as great as provided by Sigma is a godsend. My equipment is never down very long.

I just wanted to share a good repair story and give kudos to Sigma.

Glad to hear it!

My Sigma 30mm f/1.4 has a backfocus issue with my Sony. Unfortunately I don't have micro adjustment in my body so I have to send in the body and lens to Sigma to have the lens calibrated. Given all the negative stories that I've read about Sigma and Sony alike I haven't taken the big step of sending away my body and lens. I've been afraid something will go wrong.

But your story has made me feel better about it. :thumbsup2

That seems to be a common complaint with the Sigma 30. I had mine done with no issues. Just pack everything well and insure it with the carrier and it should be fine.

Glad to hear it!

Thank you for this post! I have the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC in the Sony mount, and it has been driving me crazy! If I use Program Auto mode, set ISO to Multi-frame Noise Reduction, and use Center Weighted metering mode, the pictures are sharp as a tack! Otherwise, it's a crap-shoot trying to figure out where the focus point will be, even when using a tripod shooting the same subject over and over (with a remote shutter release). After your post, I now assume it is the lens and not the photographer.

I sent my Canon T2i and 2 Sigma lenses in for calibration about 18 months ago and was very happy with their service and turnaround time.

Both were done under warranty. My only expense was shipping them to Sigma (plus insurance).

I have use Sigma service 4 time over the years. I have never had a problem with there service. Three times I mailed lenses to them on a Monday and had it back on Friday. Once it took 2 weeks. I will be mailing them a lens this week and I hope it is a quick turn around again!
